One Brain Two Minds - Print - MSN Health & Fitness

If each half of the brain has its own experiences, intentions and emotions, how do we experience consciousness as a cohesive whole, emanating from a singular self? Scientists think that this is where the interpreter comes in. The interpreter observes the disparate parts of our reality—the sights and sounds around us, the emotions and perspectives within—and knits it all into a pattern. It will even impose an explanation when there is none, at least not one that it knows about.
-
Our intentions are formed and carried out very quickly, and they only percolate into our conscious awareness after the fact.

the idea that
mental images are, and must always remain, strictly segregated by
sense mode (such that images of different modalities might interact
associatively, but never merge) is compelling only if we regard the
senses as independent, segregated channels through which sense
impressions of different types are funneled into the mind, and if we
also think of mental imagery as arising within those sense
channels, or as directly derived from their immediate outputs. -
Some hold that mentalese is necessary to account for the
intentionality of imagery (Fodor, 1975; Rollins, 1989; Tye, 1991;
