1-1 assessment

  • During the laptop rollout to students, we focused our workshop sessions on
digital citizenship and what that now meant with a laptop in hand 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. The workshop outcome required our students to work
collaboratively in a small group to create a digital product -- movie, podcast,
slideware, comic - that demonstrated their understanding of an aspect of digital
citizenship. These products were created using only their MacBooks and were
uploaded to be shared across the whole grade. Lessons and discussions concerning
digital citizenship and maintaining life balance are ongoing.

rubrics assessment

  • Studies have shown that too much attention
to the quality of one’s performance is associated with more superficial
thinking, less interest in whatever one is doing, less perseverance in the
face of failure, and a tendency to attribute the outcome to innate ability
and other factors thought to be beyond one’s control.[7]
  • Any form
of assessment that encourages students to keep asking, “How am I doing?” is
likely to change how they look at themselves and at what they’re learning,
    usually for the worse.
