Joho the Blog » OMG. I disagree with Umberto Eco!
David Weinberger discusses Umberto Eco's interview (in Der Spiegel) wherein Eco argues that "The list is the origin of culture," a statement which Weinberger sets out to refute. In particular, I appreciated his view that lists are one-dimensional and therefore can't be all that Eco ascribes to them. I left a comment about pattern recognition (which neither Eco in the interview nor Weinberger in his analysis mention).
Joho the Blog » Thanking whom?
David Weinberger has a nice post on Thanksgiving, and I left a comment. File under atheism/ agnosticism and religion.
Joho the Blog » We. One.
I think David Weinberger says something really true here:
QUOTE:
Learning to hear and respond to what is good and shared in an expression we find detestable is harder. The best teachers do this routinely. We can all learn to do it. We can. Yes, we can.
It is a big part of how Obama brings out the better nature in us. It is a big reason the unrelenting and unreasoned negative campaign aimed at him failed.
It is also a task performed historically all out of proportion by African-Americans. That is a blessing we have not deserved, but could not have survived without.
UNQUOTE
The African heritage of America is a rock, and with Obama in the White House, it's a rock to build on at last.
BetterBadNews » Blogging Incredibility and Journalism
Just for fun, the Better Bad News crew's send up of "a recent conference examining blogging, credibility and journalism. Ethan Zuckerman is challenged to reveal the source of an unattributed remark asserting that David Weinberger’s presentation compared favorably to Lenny Bruce at his prime. This 15 minute video blog is also accessable as a podcast."
The video is from Jan.29/05 -- over 3 years old, and its issues strike me as so innocent now.
