Time October 31, 2009 article on Google book scanning battle. Less useful for the article itself but rather for the background info it provides and possible leads into investigating the history of this effort. Would be useful for the library science class.
Building Maker - Create 3D buildings online
The video intro explaining Google Building Maker which looks easy enough for grade school kids to use. You can quickly model a building and submit it to Google for review. If approved, it will be added to the 3D Buildings layer in Google Earth.

Good example of why scanning all the books would be a great idea for research. I don't care who does it or if multiple companies do it but it is something that needs to be done and this provides a good argument as to why it needs to happen.

A great web site to get ideas on using Google Earth and My Maps with literature. Has example lesson plans for a variety of grades.

An excellent resource for teachers looking for ideas on using Google Earth in the classroom. Has links to detailed lesson plans, additional software, Google Earth tutorials, etc.
Official Google Blog: Went Walkabout. Brought back Google Wave.
Announcement with 1.5 hour video explaining/describing Google Wave which will be released sometime in 2009. It's hard to describe this but it might be thought of as an evolution in email to embrace the more social/collaborative aspects of web 2.0. It may have application in education and might be useful in one or more of my courses.

Google for Educators start page. Leads to video ideas, classroom examples, forums, etc. Good way to show students what Google has for teachers that they may not be aware of.

Google's listing of keyboard shortcuts for Gmail. Useful for anyone but may be very useful for special needs situations.

This could easily be used in a current events classroom. Nice way to integrate technology that is a mashup. Also a different way to visualize the data.

Trippermap - get a flash world map of your flickr photos
A free service that lets you put your Flickr photos on a map--Flash-based--you can add map to web sites/blog posts, etc. Supports geotagging. Map can be any size with up to 1000 points. Can do custom coloration. Worth investigating. Only concern is Flash.
