Interesting online backup facility. Uses a custom version control/rdiff type client to keep multiple versions and only send minimal change data to the server. Data on the server is encrypted.
2GB Free for life. USD100 per 100GB per year so its a good price. High levels of compression and redundant file checking make it even better value. No bandwidth charges and no restrictions on how many client machines access the online account.
Client versions for Windows, Mac and Ubuntu/Debian.
Restrictive Acceptable Use policies. Prevent backup us an limit the total number of files.
100GB=$50/$100 pa (1GB/2GB max file size)
Seems OK price-wise. Offers "unlimited" storage but forbids backup use AND imposes limits on INODE numbers. CPANEL based.
Online storage. 1GB free, 50GB=$99pa. Windows, Mac and Linux client (Java based) enables remote store to be used line a folder share.
50GB=$70pa. Client software for Windows, Mac and Linux, WebDAV and SSL security.
Unusual pay-as-you-go hosting service.
$0.02/d MySQL, $0.01/GB transfer, $0.01/MB/m storage.
BUT: No hosted email & no fixed IP/SSL
Per MB storage is too costly to store much. But this would be good for a blog that might get Dugg. Or perhaps a cheap way to speed up a web 2.0 type site by externally hosting the JS
$2 per month + 15 cents per GB per month. Pay per use, cloud storage, encryption (256-bit AES done before transmission). Appears as drive. Block level updates (minimises traffic). Use with existing backup tools. Access to files using browser if needed. 1 price for any number of computers backed up. Unlimited bandwidth! Worldwide data centres. Use Amazon S3 instead of cloudspace if required. Workgroup and Windows Home Server editions also available
NB: Max 5GB single file limitation.
"Free" UNIX Shell accounts (actually requires a PayPal donation but $1 is the minimum so it is not much!).
Provides SSH access on multiple ports including 80 and 443 & allows port forwarding.
in list: IT
Seems like a viable alternative to Dreamhost.
Cheapest rate is a 3yr sign-up for USD6.95pm + USD30pa for a dedicated IP (for SSL).
I'd want to answer some questions first though:
- Can Cpanel be accessed via a normal url (port 80 rather than port 1082) because of firewall issues
- Can procmail be used or is there a useful equivalent
- Is mysql hosted on the same server as the web site? (when on different servers access times can be an issue)
