+kenwilber.com - blog

  • One reason we are always eager to explore this topic with Alex is that he is one of the very few people who have, over a lifetime of experience, used these powerful substances in a genuinely responsible and growth-oriented manner. Entheogens are a controversial topic in spiritual practice, but experiential evidence from various practitioners suggests that use can have a powerful impact on one's spiritual perspective. Whether one is personally interested in using entheogens on one's own path or not, this is an extremely enlightening part of the dialogue, simply because this topic is so rarely spoken about in a healthy, rational, and transparent manner.

Consciousness and Transformative Studies - MA

  • The MA in Consciousness and Transformative Studies in Integral Studies Department is a 68-unit interdisciplinary program that offers an integrated, multi-faceted approach to the exploration of consciousness, the unfolding of human potential and the implementation of new paradigm thinking. This holistic curriculum integrates five major fields of study: philosophy, psychology, spirituality, ecology, and the new science.
  • This program uses an integral perspective to inquire deeply into the nature of self and reality. An integral exploration of consciousness involves: the individual subjective "I" of personal experience; the intersubjective "We" of community and culture; the objective "It" of empiricism and measurement; and the interobjective "Its" of social, global, and universal systems. Courses include new research in consciousness and transformation, as well as multi-dimensional perspectives on the evolution of consciousness and the awakening of wisdom and compassion in the world.

4 Powerful Reasons to Meditate and How To Get Started

  • It may seem strange, but I feel happiest when sitting in perfect silence.
  • The great thing about meditation is that our philosophy/religious belief is not importanct. Meditation is about consciousness.

Meditation Alters Brain Structure, Functioning

  • The term refers to the brain's recently discovered ability to change its
structure and function, in particular by expanding or strengthening circuits
that are used and by shrinking or weakening those that are rarely engaged. In
its short history, the science of neuroplasticity has mostly documented brain
changes that reflect physical experience and input from the outside world. In
pianists who play many arpeggios, for instance, brain regions that control the
index finger and middle finger become fused, apparently because when one finger
hits a key in one of these fast-tempo movements, the other does so almost
simultaneously, fooling the brain into thinking the two fingers are one. As a
result of the fused brain regions, the pianist can no longer move those fingers
    independently of one another.
  • "Of all the concepts in modern neuroscience, it is neuroplasticity that
has the greatest potential for meaningful interaction with Buddhism," says
neuroscientist Richard Davidson of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The
Dalai Lama agreed, and he encouraged monks to donate (temporarily) their brains
    to science.
