  • On this site is aletter directed to Philip Knight, the CEO of NIKE. It discusses the working conditions of the people who work at NIKE factories in countries like Vietnam, China, and Indonesia. It mainly addresses women who work in the factories and their inablility to support themselves and/or their families. NIKE has many various resources and thus should not only be able to, but should do better. The letter was sent by various women's groups suchas The Feminist Majority, Women for Affirmative Action, Equal Rights Advocates, and many more.
    This relates to class in that it speaks of the challeges that impoverished people face when given the choice to work for little pay and it bad working conditions, or not work at all. There are many businesses just like NIKE who have to resources to do better, but don't.

  • This is an interesting page about corporations and the environment. As the title states, the article is about corporations assuming responsibility for the environment. In recent years, the world has seen a shift of power go from the states to the corporations. The corporations own the tv stations, the radio stations, as well joining with other corporations. This article discusses the history of the corporation including things such as the North American Free Trade Aggreement. The article goes on to discuss its main issue of the environment along with including other pertinent facts.
    This relates to class in that it discusses the corporation as well as the environment. In class we talked abou the corporation's sheer disregard for the environment. As long as the bosses and shareholders made money, everything would be fine.

  • This is a really interesting site which lists the top ten worst corporations for the year of 2005. The list includes a brief paragraph about each corporation explaining some of the things it has done ans what it continues to do. Some of the corporations included in the list include: Exxon Mobil, Ford, and BP.
    This relates to what we were talking in class because not only does it list the worst contributers to the environment but since these corporations are so high as to be within the top ten, most likely they have been in the top ten before. This suggests that these corporations don't care what they are doing as long as they are reaping benefits, they will be content with themselves.

  • This site talks about the corporation. It discusses the rise of the corporation as well as human rights, worker's rights, the corporation's relationship with the environment. The site also contains a fact sheet consisting of various pieces of information relating to a corporation. There is also a section on the site about the site. It discusses what the site is about, awards, partners, and privacy information. There is also information about the arms trade, arms control, the middle east, foreign policy, NATO, the war on terror, and the list goes on.
    This site relates to what we have talked about in class in that it discusses the relationships between corporations and various things such as the people and the environment. It is important in our world to take care of both and if corporations keep operating the way that they are then who knows what will happen.

  • This is a really cool site about amazing people all over the globe who are fighting to save the world. It is about the book by David Bornstein entitled, "How to Change the World." Through the site one can look at some of the people's stories and what they are actively doing for their effort. There is a letter form the editor as well as various facts. The fact sheet ranges from defing a socail entrepeneur to how can anyone save the world.
    This site relates to what we have talked about in class in that it is about different people's stories. Everday people who are actively doing what they can to help the world. It relates in that it reminds us that ordinary people have the capacity to do so many amazing things in the world if only they try and believe.

  • This website shows about the United States tranfer as a world power from 1867 to 1917. It discusses the US's relationship with other countries including Germany and Britain. It also discusses the aquisition of certain territories such as Alaska and Puerto Rico. Moreover, there are maps that show the American expansion in the Caribbean and the their expansion into the Pacific. This site also talks about international justice, UN reform, finanicial crisis, globalization, and much more. The site relates to what we have talked about in class for many reasons such that it gives examples and definitions of the US as a power structure, it talks about the world's globalization, and social and economic policies. - katie on 2006-12-05
