Add Sticky Note

- Actually a committe can overrule this now. We really want the 14 yo 5th grader to move on. My district is going to have a new policy that kids can't be more than 1 year behind their age mates in elementary school to do way with the problem of 14 yo boys in classes with 10 yo girls. - on 2009-03-18

Add Sticky NoteWe want to be much less punitive and reward excellence and really again spotlight those schools and those districts that are beating the odds every single day.
- This is true. They also need to recongize improvement. A student that goes from failing with a 40% to failing with a 66% has done much more thatn someone that went from passing with an 88% to passing iwht a 97%. The first is still branded a failure. If we keep telling these kids they are failures when they have vastly improved - they are going to drop out. - on 2009-03-09

Add Sticky NoteThey will improve the assessments used to track student progress to measure readiness for college and the workplace and improve student learning in a timely, individualized manner.
- I would be very happy if instead of measuring just pass/fail student improvement from one year to the next is recongized. It is horrible to tell a student/family that their child that went from 0.9 reading level in 3rd grade to 4.1 reading level in 4th grade that he/she still failed the test that is given 1 time a year - so failed the year. - on 2009-01-24

Add Sticky NoteIndividuals with Disabilities Education Act
- Are they going to continue to pentalize schools for acctually identifing students with disabilities? Under current system schools are penalized for IDing students with LD's if they go past a very small precentage. - on 2009-01-24
