Social Networking Ad Spending Update - eMarketer

US online social network ad spending is now projected to reach $2.6 billion in 2012. In its last projection, made in December 2007, eMarketer estimated that spending would reach $2.7 billion in 2011. Spending in that year is now expected to be $2.4 billion.

  • Now LinkedIn has not one but three revenue streams -- a
    premium subscription service for active individual and
    corporate users, transaction fees from recruiters for job
    postings and online advertising.
  • "We are putting in place the management team of a $500
    million company," Nye said. LinkedIn has 105 employees in all.

  • Sterling Market Intelligence analyst Greg Sterling said the Jaxtr application brings something needed to social networks. But he pointed out that Jaxtr will have to fight VoIP competitors such as Skype, Jajah, and Google, which will not have a difficult time emulating Jaxtr’s offerings.
  • People calling from different countries will be able to avoid international charges by using the assigned number. Once the number is assigned, callers can store numbers for Jaxtr members in their phone. Among other features, callers can leave messages for Jaxtr members, and Jaxtr members can change their settings to avoid phone calls from unknown callers.
