Better Learning With Sites and Sound :: Inside Higher Ed :: Higher Education's Source for News, Views and Jobs
One qualitative study, which surely won’t be welcomed by manufacturers of basic
word processing software, found that students who create and edit documents
using Web-based collaboration tools include more complex visual media in their
assignments — and come away with a better understanding in the process. Another
ongoing experiment finds, with statistical significance, that instructors can be
more effective in grading students’ work if they record their comments directly
into documents as audio.

Q&A: What Will The Intellectual Property Czar Do? : NPR
While Congress was embroiled in the battle over the financial bailout bill, both houses somehow managed to overwhelmingly approve legislation backed by the entertainment industry. The bill will help step up enforcement efforts against intellectual property theft.
The Fischbowl: Questions for Senators Obama and McCain
@Jude – Perhaps something more along the lines of, “Explain your views on why school libraries are important? What do you think school libraries should look like and why?”
@Nate Barton – I like the creativity angle. I wonder if the other part of your comment might also spur an interesting question, something along the lines of: “Everyone is talking about making students ‘college ready,’ yet the undergraduate degree appears to be becoming more and more irrelevant. Do you believe the college degree, as currently conceived, is still relevant and, if so, explain why?
@Dr. B.A. – I’m thinking you’d get talking points on that one.
@FCPS – Nice. I, too, wonder how a system that is designed on 2, 4 and 6 year election cycles can address long-term solutions to complicated issues.
@Ben Nuebel – Hey, how’s it going? Great questions, but I also think those would elicit the canned talking points on alternative energy.
@Mike – Might be the best question yet.
@Ian – Interesting and relevant, but I wonder about the implicit assumption that those from the top third of their classes would automatically be better teachers.
Obama's Technology Outlook : NPR
It's not unusual to see Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama using his cell phone or BlackBerry. And he's no stranger to the Internet.
McCain's Technology Outlook : NPR
John McCain has said he rarely uses e-mail or the Internet. During the Republican primary, he referred to himself as computer illiterate. And earlier this month, he told The New York Times that he depends on his wife and staff to show him Web sites.
The Digital Divide Between McCain And Obama : NPR
Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama have very different digital resumes. Their habits were shaped, in part, by what they were doing when the digital age arrived.
