In August last year, a breakaway group of employers, headed up by Balfour Beatty’s electrical services wing, walked away from the national negotiating body, and announced they were forming a new employers’ group. They simultaneously announced that they would be imposing new contracts on all their electricians, to take effect at the start of December – removing travel allowances, ending existing overtime agreements and current grading agreements, and leading to pay cuts of up to 35%.

The strike has been called because workers have said 'enough is enough', after two years of the government refusing to negotiate with unions on any issue. Indian's are sick of the rich getting richer, record economic growth, whilst 400 million people have not got a pot to piss in.

طالبت مؤسسة “أولاد الأرض” لحقوق الإنسان بإسقاط قانون تجريم الإضرابات, وسرعه إصدار قانون الحريات النقابية, وتطهير اللجنة الإدارية المؤقتة التي تدير الاتحاد الرسمي من الفلول وأعضاء الحزب الوطني, ووضع حدين أدنى وأقصى للأجور بما يكفل حياه كريمة للعمال والموظفين ويكفل تقريب الفروق بين الدخول, وتثبيت كافة العمالة المؤقتة, وتعديل قانون العمل 12 لسنة 2003 بما يضمن استقرار وأمان علاقات العمل والحد من سلطات صاحب العمل في شأن قرارات الفصل, وإقرار معاش بطالة لكافة المتعطلين عن العمل, وإيقاف سياسة الخصخصة التي بددت ثروات الشعب المصري.
On 30 January, only five days into the revolution, the Egyptian Federation of Independent Trade Unions was born, the first such federation to be established since the union movement was monopolized by the state-controlled Egyptian Trade Union Federation in 1957. Since then, some 300 independent unions have been established nationwide, with a reported membership of nearly two million workers.
