"أصدرت المبادرة المصرية للحقوق الشخصية اليوم نتائج تحقيقاتها في أسباب وتداعيات الاعتداء على كنيسة الشهيد مار جرجس وحرقها وعدد من منازل الأقباط بقرية المريناب التابعة لمركز إدفو بشمال أسوان يوم الجمعة الماضي الموافق 30 سبتمبر، علاوة على عمليات تهديد وترويع المواطنين داخل منازلهم.

أقباط القرية واظبوا منذ منتصف ثمانيات القرن الماضي على الصلاة وإقامة الشعائر الدينية في مبنى من الطوب اللبن لخدمة الأقباط من أهالي القرية وأهالي خمس قرى مجاورة. كما قامت مطرانية أسوان ومنذ أكثر من عقدين من الزمن بتعيين كاهن متواجد بصورة دائمة للقيام بالطقوس الدينية في المبنى، وعينت مديرية أمن أسوان حراسة دائمة على المكان أسوة بباقي كنائس الجمهورية. إلا أن الأحداث تفجرت بالقرية مع قرب انتهاء الأقباط من إعادة بناء الكنيسة بعد الحصول على التراخيص اللازمة من الجهات المعنية لإزالة المبنى المتهالك وإعادة بنائه بالخرسانة.

وقد حصلت المبادرة المصرية للحقوق الشخصية على نسخ من الوثائق والتراخيص التي تثبت بشكل قاطع قانونية وجود الكنيسة وعلم كافة المسئولين بذلك واستيفاء كافة إجراءات الهدم والإحلال.

The severity of the charges and sentencing goes far beyond the official response to any other recent anti-war demonstration, or even the violent stop the City protests a decade ago. So do the arrests, many of them carried out months after the event in dawn raids by dozens of police officers, who smashed down doors and handcuffed family members as if they were suspected terrorists. Naturally, none of the more than 30 complaints about police violence were upheld, even where video evidence was available.
