Our organization is comprised of school technologists, educators, consultants, vendors, and other parties which collaborate to provide a comprehensive set of solutions and services for the Open 1-to-1 community. Cell phones can be used in powerful ways by students and teachers as assessment tools. Most teachers are familiar and comfortable asking students to submit written work to assess their learning, but are likely much less experienced asking students to submit multimedia files as assignments. This needs to change. As teachers, we need to invite students to regularly “show what they know” not only with written texts, worksheets, and multiple-choice examinations, but also with multimedia software as well as websites which permit students to record their voices and use visual images to communicate messages.
Storycaching
Storycaching is a proof-of-concept project combining GPS units, iPods, and laptop computers to create, store and share audio stories where absolute place is important. By using a GPS to locate a specific point on the earth and then listening to a podcast specific to that area, a new dimension in communication is created. Also, an artifact, trinket, or other symbolic object can be cached at that exact site adding a compelling relevance to the story. The experience could even include the podcast guiding the listener to the cache from the beginning point noted by the GPS. Once combined, the iPod and the GPS will recreate concept of sharing stories both in the capabilities of the storyteller and the expectations of the listener.

Cell Phones in Learning - Liz Kolb
Cell phones have the capability to become the "Swiss army knife" for student research and organization. First, we explore using cell phones as data collection tools: audio recorders, digital cameras, and digital camcorders. Additionally, we consider how classroom projects can be developed for cell phones: creating ring tones, text messaging, mobile WebPages, and mobile surveys. Finally, we contemplate the future features of cell phones and how those features play a role in learning.

India says it is planning to produce a low cost laptop intended for use by school children and students.
The cheap laptop has been developed as part of a broader national plan to update the technology used by Indian colleges and schools.
