GoMiner Home Page
With some effort, this could work as another tool for social network analysis. Yet another instance where journalists would do well to study other disciplines and their methods.

GoMiner™ is a tool for biological interpretation of 'omic' data – including data from gene expression microarrays. Omic experiments often generate lists of dozens or hundreds of genes that differ in expression between samples, raising the question
What does it all mean biologically?
To answer this question, GoMiner leverages the Gene Ontology (GO) to identify the biological processes, functions and components represented in these lists. Instead of analyzing microarray results with a gene-by-gene approach, GoMiner classifies the genes into biologically coherent categories and assesses these categories. The insights gained through GoMiner can generate hypotheses to guide additional research.

This library and web portal contains materials useful in Visual Analytics (higher) education. Visual Analytics is an evolving field that we have attempted to capture through a prototype taxonomy, into which we organize our library contents. The VADL includes videos, PowerPoint and recorded lectures, sample tests and exams and other documents useful to educators and students in the field.

What Do We Do?
Our mission is to assist researchers in achieving their scientific goals more quickly through visualization while simultaneously advancing the state-of-the-art in visualization through our own research. From the standpoint of a user of NERSC, for example, the Visualization Group provides the expertise and the software and hardware resources necessary to allow that user to visualize his or her data without having to invest the significant amount of time required to learn about visualization tools and techniques. We also make our software and hardware resources available to more experienced or adventurous users to allow them to explore their data at their own pace.

concept visualization
-
In 2004 a book was published by the Interaction Design Institute of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Zürich, on the subject of "the interaction" and its place in the world of man-machine-communications. The book, Total Interaction, is a compilation of nineteen essays which offer different perspectives on this complex thematic field; the issues they tackle form the basis of the Institute’s work, research and teaching.
As "Total Interaction" took shape, it became apparent to its editors that the concepts under discussion would have to be illustrated, in order to help the reader understand not only the content of each individual essay, but also the thematic links relating the essays to each other. The authors thus undertook to create visually intuitive graphics, which, in representing the essays in a „second language“, would assist in the extraction and comprehension of more information from each essay (and the book) than reading alone would allow.
Human Brain Cloud: About
-
About Human Brain Cloud
Thanks for reading this! I wanted to quickly learn Flash and Javascript while taking a break from making this game, and the result was Human Brain Cloud - a massively multiplayer word association "game" or experiment ... or something. The idea is that given a word, a player types in the first thing that comes to mind and the results are combined into a giant network.
For instance given the word "volcano", a common word people might submit would be "lava", and this would result in a very strong connection between "volcano" and "lava". On the other hand, given the word "volcano", fewer people might associate it with something like "birthday party", resulting in a very weak connection or no connection at all. Over time and with many players, I hope the cloud will gradually grow to represent words and phrases people tend to associate with other words and phrases, assuming it doesn't get inundated with spam. The cloud started with just one word, "volcano". All other words were submitted by visitors to this site.
This isn't academically rigorous or anything, so set your expectations accordingly and have fun seeing what people subconsciously think about stuff!
