Welcome to the Interdome: The Plot Against Magic and Curses
-
Boil and bubble, teenagers in trouble. For whatever reason, our play seemed to keep crossing over into that artistic stuff, that stuff that everyone else said was supposed to be work.
-
Of course for those of us engaged in the endless war of pouring words out onto the ground, hoping they somehow, some way worm themselves into someone's ear, we often wish we could use a funnel. Shouting out our magic into the cold air off the edge of the cliff is its own catharsis, but everyone wants a little love.
Observations on film art and FILM ART : Now leaving from platform 1

What makes this traditional idea sexy? I think it’s a third, less common component that Henry has spotlighted. Some transmedia narratives create a more complex overall experience than that provided by any text alone. This can be accomplished by spreading characters and plot twists among the different texts. If you haven’t tracked the story world on different platforms, you have an imperfect grasp of it.

the texts around The Matrix exist in symbiosis, giving as much as they take.

Reality Sandwich | Courage, Synchronicity, and the Technology of Magic

Taking him at his word, then, the prickling astonishment that follows the experience of synchronicity-the sensation that something magical has just occurred-this is but an artifact of our limited technology of mind.

non-duality and the illusion of separateness and how we're all dreams in the mind of God and yes maybe so but maybe also mealy mysticism and ultimately what really matters is that there's a correspondence between the inner world and the outer world and if it has meaning for an individual and clarifies their confusion and lights their path then it doesn't really matter if we're all temporarily stable matrices of energetic probabilities, knots in a doily, or concentrations of consciousness in an infinite field of experience. What matters is that the co-incidence had meaning for the individual,
Mind Hacks: Can't put the thought genie back into the bottle

The ability to act as a 'detached observer' to the mind's distressing thoughts is a useful cognitive skill and one that is cultivated by mindfulness mediation, something that has increasing evidence as a useful treatment for mental health problems.
Confessions of an Aca/Fan: Authoring and Exploring Vast Narratives: An Interview with Pat Harrigan and Noah Wardrip-Fruin (Part One)
-
What to do with an audience who may miss unpredictable parts of the experience? Obviously the problem isn't exactly the same, because one case is organized around time (audiences may miss episodes or portions of episodes) and the other is organized by more varied interaction (e.g., selective navigation around a larger space). But there is a common authorial move that can be made in both instances: Finding ways to present any major narrative information in different ways in multiple contexts, so that the result isn't boring for those who see things encyclopedically and doesn't make those with less complete experiences feel they've lost the thread.
-
Of course, what the above formulation leaves out is that this problem doesn't have to be solved purely on the media authoring side, and perhaps isn't best solved there. Another approach is to design the computational system to ensure that the necessary narrative experiences are had, as appropriate for the path taken by any particular audience. This requires thinking through the authorial problem

Irondale: An Experiment In Post-Oil Survival By Peter Goodchild
-
Of course, I was cheating already by using hardware-store fertilizer and limestone for the first summer, but a real survivalist wouldn’t have been crazy enough to try growing anything on that kind of land in the first place — a mixture of sand, asphalt, broken bottles, and rusted bulldozer parts.
-
What killed the Irondale experiment was too much work and not enough money. There never seemed to be a way to stretch a dollar far enough, no matter how hard we worked.

Isn’t it more natural to behold as many things as possible in their full size and detail, rather than be restricted to objects immediately around oneself and in one’s line of sight?
If there are such major perceptual shortcomings that we have, then isn’t it possible that they might be accompanied by cognitive or imaginative shortcomings that we lack even the self-reflection to perceive?
Erowid Experience Vaults: Cacti - T. pachanoi (San Pedro) - Water Waves of Light - 73444

Upon looking down, a trance-like state of mind takes over and I am utterly swept away by a ‘breathing’ effect of the ground. First, part of the concrete breathes profoundly upward, while ripples or waves run through the other part. The breathing quality then migrates to a different part of the concrete, while the brick inlay begin to subtly shift sideways. Then they shift back. Then the breathing waves over while ripples slowly run across the bricks as if the bricks and concrete were a liquid rather than a solid. The visual effect is altogether very similar to water waves on the surface of a large lake or ocean. The unrelenting and slow breathing, undulating and rippling of that concrete and bricks takes my breath away! -
Moments later, the glass sheets become an infinitely thick window showing a distant part of the Universe never seen before by telescope. Bright light shines outward from the cracks in between tile/sheets of glass, while the crystalline substance converts the light from the light-posts into an awesome display of multi-colored stars.
