NSDL: NCore Platform --
-
NCore technologies and standards provide the National Science Digital Library (NSDL) and other organizations with a framework for semantic digital library infrastructure. A common data model - a formal description of how data that may include digital text, images, data sets, lesson plans, video, and audio resources may be structured and accessed - is at the heart of NCore and forms the basis for a suite of system components that are described and documented in this web site.
The NCore next-generation, open source digital library framework based on Fedora Commons open source repository software provides users, developers, information managers and decision-makers with systems for description, organization, interrelation, and annotation of resources. Other tools and services support the creation, organization, and indexing of resource references and metadata in the library. Together NCore tools for discovery, creation, annotation and organization form a dynamic information layer on top of library resources and metadata.

With Knol, we are introducing a new method for authors to work together that we call "moderated collaboration." With this feature, any reader can make suggested edits to a knol which the author may then choose to accept, reject, or modify before these contributions become visible to the public. This allows authors to accept suggestions from everyone in the world while remaining in control of their content. After all, their name is associated with it!

The Friendfeedization Of Facebook
sounds familiar:"It’s more about highlighting new content relevant to the user and fostering conversations about that content."
-
As Facebook continues to roll out the full version of its new user profiles, it’s becoming clear that their primary goal isn’t, as they said in May, to simply create a cleaner user experience and allow developers to have more meaningful engagement points with users. It’s more about highlighting new content relevant to the user and fostering conversations about that content. And the result is that the Facebook home page looks an awful lot like the exponentially smaller activity stream aggregation service called Friendfeed.
Why Educational Change is Hard - Practical Theory
-
first, why is it that schools are so hard to transform using these tools when commerce (for instance) has been so easy to change? And second, what has to happen within the community of folks -- loose as it may be -- who care about the notion of 21st Century schools.

then use these feeds in a variety of ways: as an RSS feed, a widget,
in Facebook applications, and more (and if you're a programmer, you can
incorporate them into your applications and websites).

Community:NCore - NSDLWiki

NCore is an open-source suite of tools and services for creating production digital libraries and related repository systems. It provides a general platform for building digital libraries united by a common data model and interoperable applications. NCore currently powers the National Science Digital Library (NSDL), which catalogs over 2.5 million resources from over 130 digital collection providers and thousands of web sites.
NCore consists of a central repository that uses Fedora as its underlying data store; a data model and a web services API that implements the model; a number of fundamental services, including two full-text search services, OAI-PMH aggregation and service; and a suite of end-user tools, including the NCS cataloging and metadata management tool, the Expert Voices blogging system, and a repository-integrated wiki.
A growing number of the components of NCore have been released on SourceForge under the Educational Community License (ECL 1.0), with plans to release the entire suite during the first half of 2008. See below for a list of and links to the released components.
