CSS Systems for writing maintainable CSS | Natalie Downe

  • A CSS System is a reusable set of content-oriented markup patterns and associated CSS created to express a site's individual design. It is the end result of a process that emphasizes up-front planning, loose coupling between CSS and markup, pre-empting browser bugs and overall robustness. It also incorporates a shared vocabulary for developers to communicate the intent of the code.

A List Apart: Articles: Hybrid CSS Dropdowns - Mozilla Firefox

  • We’re going to create a hybrid menu that runs horizontally across the window. It has two levels of navigation (in our example, main topics and their associated pages). Our menu will allow for dropdown access to all pages in both navigation levels, display the current choices in the selected topic area constantly, keep the user aware of where he is in the site, and be clean and light to boot.

ESWAT web project framework at ESWAT - Mozilla Firefox

  • The ESWAT web project framework is a kit that contains a folder structure and some pre-written components that I use whenever I start off a new web project. This is going beyond my Rapid XHTML/CSS development using templates entry. At the end of this entry you will find a ZIP archive that not only contains updated versions of those templates (now in both HTML and XHTML flavour), but the PSD file I use for starting off layouts (which includes a grid, rulers and divisions) and the file structure I use to store everything in.

SitePoint Blogs » Dealing with unqualified HREF values - Mozilla Firefox

  • When I was building my extension for finding unused CSS rules, I needed a way of qualifying any href value into a complete URI. I needed this because I wanted it to support stylesheets inside IE conditional comments, but of course to Firefox these are just comments — I had to parse each comment node with a regular expression to extract what’s inside it, and therefore, the href value I got back was always just a string, not a property or a qualified path.

Content with Style: A CSS Framework

  • In my Modular CSS article I documented the possibility of breaking down stylesheets into components that could be reused across projects. All well and good. The next logical step is to extend this to become a CSS framework, allowing rapid development of sites with pre-written and tested components. All that's really required to produce this is a set of naming conventions and a flexible base template...
