Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg punctuated his “awesome” announcement today by revealing that users are now publicly sharing around 4 billion “things” (status updates, images, etc) on Facebook a day.
Zuckerberg explained that in accordance with Facebook’s data, social sharing functions exponentially, so that the amount of stuff you shared today is double the amount of stuff you shared a year ago and the stuff that you will share a year from now will be double the amount you’ve shared today. In Mark Zuckerberg’s Law of Social Sharing, Y = C *2^X — Where X is time, Y is what you will be sharing and C is a constant.

Digital business card sharing isn’t really new but the idea of sharing your professional contact information with those who are in close proximity could be a compelling addition to any networking or business event. CardFlick could partner with event organizers to create a branded app for event participants to share their contact info.

In fact, look back at this 2007 Google blog post about Knol, where Manber says “The challenge posed to us by Larry, Sergey and Eric was to find a way to help people share their knowledge. This is our main goal.”
-
One way of thinking of this, says a source with knowledge of the group, is this. Singhal does the weeding (removing and pushing down low quality content in search), and Manber is focused on the seeding (encouraging “good stuff” to grow).

KR: WHat’s the value proposition for the first user at the company?
EP: It can work for only two users as a communication platform or a reference point. We want to build something that feels like a consumer software but is for the enterprise.
-
EP: We’re not trying to compete with Quora; were just trying to add a centralized knowledge base within businesses. We are looking at organic growth but open to whatever makes sense.
SV: Our approach is to build a layer on top of a company. This a light and easy way to add that layer. And it can integrate with other silos of information.

Escape velocity, even after you have signed up
After you cross that initial hump of finding enough topics of interest, Quora becomes a lot more engaging. However, if you do not get to that point, you have no recurring incentive to come back.
Many of my friends who signed up followed a few topics, which were probably not enough to get them interested, and then never came back. -
Retention post signing up requires inertia to overcome
There is lot of fantastic information to be found on Quora, but I think part of it requires a curious, knowledge seeking bent of mind to really get your interest.
This is even more problematic for contributions. Personally I think that knowledge sharing is a really good in a way that you learn new things, and in return you share what you know/think with others, though I get the impression that a lot of people who sign up but don't think of this as a valid hobby.

No PDF support – You can drag ePub files over to your iPad and they will appear in the reader. However, you will need to convert all other formats. You can convert almost any format using Calibre, though, so fret not.
iWork, Microsoft Office and email play well together – If you email yourself a Word doc, you can open it in Pages. This is excellent.
Kindle Reader works great on the iPad – As I said, you only want an ereader and already have a Kindle, you’re not missing much. But if you have used the Kindle store in the past, the new app works wonderfully.

The updated iPhone app includes a ‘Friend Compare’ feature that looks at the address book and Facebook profiles of you and the person you’re bumping with to see if you have any mutual friends, which can be a good way to break the ice if you’re meeting someone for the first time. The app now also includes deeper Facebook integration, allowing you to send a notification to yourself through Facebook when you bump someone (this seems like it would serve as a good reminder for following up). You can also choose to publish an item to your friends’ News Feeds when you Bump a new contact. Finally there’s the addition of a Bump history, which lets you see at a glance who, where, and when you’ve met all of your contacts (you can use filters to search through the history quickly).

When you are done with that event and ready to go home, there's nothing more to do! Your photos and video are already online. And in typical Posterous style, you don't need an account to use the app, posts include location information with Google Maps, we'll autopost to your other services, and email your posts to your subscribers.
At Posterous, we believe in making posting easier. And PicPosterous is just another way to get photos and video on your site quickly. Instead of having to wait until the end of an event to post a set of images, let them post live as you take them.
