  • Threads and Events Are Hard

…to many developers. Reasons for this is beyond the scope of this document. unicorn avoids concurrency within each worker process so you have fewer things to worry about when developing your application. Of course unicorn can use multiple worker processes to utilize multiple CPUs or spindles. Applications can still use threads internally, however.

  • A “slow client” can be any client outside of your datacenter. Network traffic within a local network is always faster than traffic that crosses outside of it. The laws of physics do not allow otherwise.

  • YouTube video: iPhone antenna song. “There’s an awful lot of hoopla about the iPhone antenna…” Harshing on the media! “In terms of daaaaily usage I’ve yet to droooop a call.”

10:05AM -   “Gizmodo is ridiculous with their anti-Apple strings. … If you don’t want an iPhone 4 don’t buy it! If you bought one and you don’t like it, bring it back!” I can’t — but also totally can — believe they’re playing this video.

  • What scares me is that there are moral fashions too. They're just as arbitrary, and just as invisible to most people. But they're much more dangerous. Fashion is mistaken for good design;  moral fashion is mistaken for good. Dressing oddly gets you laughed at. Violating moral fashions can get you fired, ostracized, imprisoned, or even killed.

  • If true, it would be good news because research shows that happier people are  healthier, more successful, harder-working, caring and more socially engaged.  Misery makes people self-obsessed and inactive.
