Showcase of Designs Optimized for iPhone « Smashing Magazine

  • Though iPhone’s Safari browser is able to render any website just like you would
see it on a desktop browser, the available screen area is much smaller than in
common “classic” displays. This poses a new challenge for designers and
developers who now can reach millions of users that use mobile Web. Websites
that are specifically optimized for the iPhone utilize the
screen to the fullest extent, and use less bandwidth (which is necessary,
because the connectivity is not always optimal).

mikeash.com: The iPhone Development Story: One Year Later

  • A year ago today I posted The iPhone Development Story, detailing all of the insane and largely pointless steps required to build an iPhone application. The article was incredibly popular, seeing tens of thousands of hits that weekend and still generating fresh comments even to this day. The Posterous iPhone app is out! PicPosterous takes away all the pain from sharing photo sets and video online - The Official Posterous Posterous

  • When you are done with that event and ready to go home, there's nothing more to do! Your photos and video

are already online. And in typical Posterous style, you don't need an account to use the app, posts include location information with Google Maps, we'll autopost to your other services, and email your posts to your subscribers.

At Posterous, we believe in making posting easier. And PicPosterous is just another way to get photos and video on your site quickly. Instead of having to wait until the end of an event to post a set of images, let them post live as you take them.

The iPhone AppStore Disaster – Why Developing Your Company’s App For It Is As Safe As Betting On Horses | BRAND INFECTION

  • During its short life of only one year so far, the AppStore – or more precisely, the approval policy of Apple – has been the target of criticism and numerous complaints coming from the press, the developers and even from the customers. While being unmistakenly the current most successful distribution network for mobile devices that is targeted at only one specific device, it is also the most curious if not politically influenced one.

MIT Students Love iPhone-Powered Doors, Hate Actual Keys | Popular Science

  • Chris Varenhorst, the MIT engineering student responsible for this hydraulic-powered door that can be opened with the tap of an iPhone app or the rap of a secret knock sequence, says that after a long day of studying, he doesn't want to waste time messing with keys. We have a different theory.

There May Be 50,000 Apps For The iPhone, But Only A Select Few Become Popular

  • AdMob has released its metrics report for May 2009 (PDF download link), and looked closely at the actual distribution of users of the iPhone apps in their network this time. The main take-away? There may be tens of thousands of applications available for the iPhone, but a whole lot of them simply never actually make it onto the device.
