Google Opens Chrome Extensions To Developers, Will Only Review Certain Ones

  • If you are a developer working on an extension, you can simply agree to Google’s terms and upload your extension to the gallery right now. One of those terms is that Google has the right to review your extension before it’s published, but they are saying they will only do that if it includes “include an NPAPI component and all content scripts that affect “file://” URLs.” Google goes on to note that “For security reasons, developers of these types of extensions will need to provide some additional information before they can post them in the gallery.” Fair enough.

Aviary’s Chrome Extension Proves That These Add-Ons Are Going To Be Awesome

While the actual Aviary editor takes up some of your CPU, the extension itself ads no bloat to the regular browsing experience. I actually have three extension installed right now and none are slowing Chrome (Chromium) at all. This gives me great hope.

A few notes about Aviary’s plug-in: First, it’s not available yet only because Google has yet to launch its Extension Gallery. Supposedly, that’s coming soon for end-users but for now extension support is limited to developers being able to upload

Tab Groups: Firefox Extension

  • Tab Groups is a firefox extension that lets a user organize tabs into groups,
those groups in turn can be switched between through their own tab bar. This
extension is aimed at power users who have many tabs open on different subjects
at once so that organizing these tabs coherently can become difficult. Windows
are cumbersome to work with and tab placement is likewise less than ideal when
the number of tabs makes their titles hard to distinguish. Currently supports
    FireFox version 2.0+.

Macworld: Secrets: Firefox extensions for geeks

  • To set up a script from Userscripts.org, first install the Greasemonkey extension on your Mac and then restart Firefox. Next, locate the script you want to download and click on the Install This Script link, which displays the raw JavaScript code. Select the Install button at the top of the page (or go to Tools: Install This User Script), and Firefox will take care of the rest. Once the installation is complete, you can turn that script on or off, using the Greasemonkey pop-up menu on the Firefox status bar (see “Monkeying Around”). To configure or uninstall any script, choose Manage User Scripts from the Greasemonkey pop-up menu.
