African House Snake Information & Care
-
This site is
dedicated to African House Snakes and other African Colubrids.
I have personally been working with snakes since 1984 and have
found a special love for the snakes that make up the Genus Lamprophis,
(which means the shining snake). The African House
Snake is actually quite misunderstood despite how easy most
species are to care for.
There is massive confusion about several of the species and sub

species, breeding issues and "morphs" and "color
phases". Unlike many typical Colubrids there is still a
tremendous amount of work to be done with House Snakes. It
is the sheer volume of unknowns and taxonomic work yet to be done
that led me to work with African House Snakes.
Microsoft Offers a Bribe - Free Website and Domain and Email
- A little over a month ago Microsoft launched Microsoft Office Live Beta with a lot of effort and resources but it did not make a huge splash in the media, in the web development communitiy or even with the bazillion affiliate marketers out there always looking for new places to publish content. Something is missing in the message because the product while far from perfect is pretty damn good at an offering price of FREE. - jjspirko on 2006-08-14

Reptic Zone Thread, Good Larger Pet Snake
-
You know this is really a great thread cause a lot of people would like a bigger snake then a corn, ball or a lot of the other 4-5 foot stuff but they don’t want something that is likely to eat a small dog if it gets out like a Redtail Boa or Rock Python Might.
So I decided to tool around the net and come up with a pic for each of the larger snakes in the list I provided along with a Jungel Carpet and a Rainbow Boa that were mentioned by others. The fact that others mentioned them by the way is the only reason I did not list those two.
Old World Ratsnakes
-
Old world ratsnakes are from Europe, Asia and the Middle east and include the following:
* Asian Elaphe: Mandarin, Steppes, Korean, Chinese king, Beauty snakes, Radiated, japanese, trinket etc.
* Other Asian 'ratsnakes': Rhino (rhynchopis), Red tailed green (Gonyosoma/Elaphe oxychepala), Jansen's (Gonyosoma/Elaphe janseni), Oreophis porphyracea (Red Mountain racer).
* European Elaphe: Ladder, Aesculapian, 4 lined etc.
Please note that as the naming conventions for reptiles are continually in flux, if it does not appear on this list please ask before posting it here. - jjspirko on 2006-09-06
The African House Snake Blog: Why Won't These House Snakes Breed
- This problem is from the fact that when we think of "common" or "brown" house snakes there are actually TWO species that look quite similar to each other and most of the herp world is under the impression that they are indeed one in the same. Then when you try to interbreed these animals they are more then willing to go through with the act but you get slugs (infertile eggs). On some occasions you may get a few good eggs and the offspring will be hybrids between the two and mostly infertile. - jjspirko on 2006-08-27
The African House Snake
-
Welcome to the African House Snake Page. This page is intended as an internet resource for people interested in finding about the amazing African House Snake (Lamprophis fuliginosus). Also, and more appropriately known as the Brown House Snake, these little colubrids may be the easiest species of snake to keep and breed in captivity.
African House Snake A Guide to Lamprophis
- When I first discovered the African House Snake I knew I had found my individual calling in the Herp world. Sure I could go into corn snakes or milks or kings or bulls or just about any of the common snakes where the knowledge was already well gathered and things would be a lot easier. - jjspirko on 2006-08-17

So this site is my contribution to the Herpetological Community. Please take time to look around and contributor to our forums and blog or even submit your articles for inclusion in our knowledge base. The opportunity to discover new traits, phases and even species is exceptional. - jjspirko on 2006-08-18
How to build enclosures for reptiles - custom snake cages - arboreal snake cages - snake keeping cage info - homemade reptile cages
-
Most of you will have asked the question “how do I build
a homemade reptile enclosure”? It must be secure.
It must be comfortable. It must be one they cannot escape from. One
that you can be proud of. One that looks good and doesn't break the
bank.
Incubation of snake eggs.
- w are two photos that show an occasion after a Children’s/Spotted Python egg split open during incubation. A makeshift “humidicrib” was set up to attempt to complete the incubation process. This did in fact succeed. Photo to the left is of the snake - jjspirko on 2006-07-26
