The Security Configuration Wizard documentation set contains deployment, extensibility options and troubleshooting tips to assist you in running the wizard.
Security Configuration Wizard (SCW) is an attack surface reduction tool for members of the Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 family with Service Pack 1 (SP1). SCW determines the minimum functionality required for a server's role or roles, and disables functionality that is not required.
SCW guides you through the process of creating, editing, applying, or rolling back a security policy based on the selected roles of the server. The security policies that are created with SCW are XML files that, when applied, configure services, network security, specific registry values, audit policy, and if applicable, Internet Information Services (IIS).
Understanding Sites, Applications, and Virtual Directories in IIS 7.0 : Provisioning Web Sites on IIS 7.0
In IIS 7.0, you can create sites, applications, and virtual directories to share information with users over the Internet, an intranet, or an extranet. Although these concepts existed in earlier versions of IIS, several changes in IIS 7.0 affect the definition and functionality of these concepts. Most importantly, sites, applications, and virtual directories now work together in a hierarchical relationship as the basic building blocks for hosting online content and providing online services.
This article provides a quick overview of applications in IIS 6.0 so that you can better understand the differences introduced in IIS 7.0. It then explains the concepts of sites, applications, and virtual directories in IIS 7.0 and introduces the <sites> section in configuration.
Network Access Protection
Network Access Protection (NAP) is a new platform and solution that controls access to network resources based on a client computer’s identity and compliance with corporate governance policy. NAP allows network administrators to define granular levels of network access based on who a client is, the groups to which the client belongs, and the degree to which that client is compliant with corporate governance policy. If a client is not compliant, NAP provides a mechanism to automatically bring the client back into compliance and then dynamically increase its level of network access.
Configuring Windows Server 2008 as a Remote Access SSL VPN Server (Part 1)
emote Access is one of today’s “big things”. As an increasing number of people need access to information stored on work and home computers, the ability to access that information from anywhere is critical. Gone are the days when you could say “I’ll get that information to you when I get to my computer”. You need that information now if you want to be competitive in today’s business environment.

Priyo's SharePoint Blog : How to install System Center Essentials on Windows Server 2008
Recently I was working on a project and preparing a Lab environment. The goal was to install and configure MOSS on Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 and monitor it with SCE. Since I faced some roadblocks while trying to install and configure SCE on a Win 08 VM i thought to post the step-by-step here to make someone’s life a little easier.
Checking Server Uptime in Windows 2008
Knowing how much time your system has been running is a piece of information useful for administrators. Sometimes you might need it in order to know when the machine has recovered from a possible power failure or any other issue it might have had. While there are plenty of 3rd-party tools that allow one to find the exact uptime of the system, there are several methods that are either built-in Windows Server 2008, or can be easily accomplished
