The Security Configuration Wizard documentation set contains deployment, extensibility options and troubleshooting tips to assist you in running the wizard.
Security Configuration Wizard (SCW) is an attack surface reduction tool for members of the Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 family with Service Pack 1 (SP1). SCW determines the minimum functionality required for a server's role or roles, and disables functionality that is not required.
SCW guides you through the process of creating, editing, applying, or rolling back a security policy based on the selected roles of the server. The security policies that are created with SCW are XML files that, when applied, configure services, network security, specific registry values, audit policy, and if applicable, Internet Information Services (IIS).

Managing Group Policy ADMX Files Step-by-Step Guide
Microsoft Windows Vista® and Windows Server 2008 introduce a new format for displaying registry-based policy settings. Registry-based policy settings (located under the Administrative Templates category in the Group Policy Object Editor) are defined using a standards-based, XML file format known as ADMX files. These new files replace ADM files, which used their own markup language. The Group Policy tools —Group Policy Object Editor and Group Policy Management Console—remain largely unchanged. In the majority of situations, you will not notice the presence of ADMX files during your day-to-day Group Policy administration tasks.
