The website is still in beta but looks really very promising for both teachers and students.

KNOW staat voor KennisNetwerk Onderwijspraktijk en Wetenschap. KNOW beoogt de kloof tussen de dagelijkse praktijk in het onderwijs en de wetenschappelijke wereld te overbruggen. Dit doen we door kennis thematisch te verzamelen en beschikbaar te stellen middels dossiers in Leraar24. We filteren de belangrijkste conclusies en bieden leraren handreikingen om met de kennis aan het werk te gaan. Naast het ophalen van kennis hebben leraren ook de mogelijkheid om een bijdrage te leveren aan de dossiers.

De doelstelling van KNOW is dat leraren die hun vak ‘evidence informed’ willen verbeteren, hier ook toe in staat worden gesteld. Wetenschappers moeten aan de andere kant ervaren dat inzichten uit hun onderzoek ook daadwerkelijk toegepast worden op de werkvloer. Bovendien moet er een beter beeld gegeven worden van de kennisbehoeften in de onderwijspraktijk en de kennis die daar ontwikkeld wordt.
KNOW bestaat uit een groeiend aantal organisaties die allemaal een bijdrage leveren aan de kwaliteit, de kwantiteit en de techniek van ons aanbod. Betrokkenen zijn onder andere; Kennisnet, LOOK, KPC Groep en Stichting Lucas Onderwijs. Kennisleveranciers zijn onder andere Freudenthal Instituut, Expertisecentrum Nederlands, de LPC, PO-Raad en VO-raad.

Once upon a time, long ago (think “Mad Men”), qualitative research users and providers had limited choices about what types of qualitative research to use. They wondered, “Should we do individual or group sessions? In person, or on the phone? Which city or cities should we choose? Should we do qualitative research first, or quantitative?” They also debated whether men and women could ever be included in the same group discussion, and other issues that may seem very quaint in 2012!

Met het programma Socrative kunt u leerlingen extra betrekken bij de les door ze op stellingen en vragen te laten reageren via hun smartphone, tablet, laptop of welke device dan ook.

 De website www.socrative.com is een online stemkastjes-tool. Het biedt docenten de mogelijkheid om de kennis van leerlingen te toetsen. Het voordeel ten opzichte van ‘gewone’ stemkastjes is dat het gratis is en je geen speciale software nodig hebt. Natuurlijk moet je wel voldoende leerlingen met een device met internet hebben.

De Amerikaanse onderwijswetenschapper Robert Marzano voerde een meta-analyse uit op de onderwijsresearch van de laatste 35 jaar. Hij was op zoek naar onderwijsveranderingen die daadwerkelijk invloed hebben op de leerprestaties van leerlingen. Door zijn werk beschikken we nu over een schat aan gegevens. Het gedachtegoed van Robert Marzano is onder de noemer Wat werkt op school vertaald en voor de Nederlandse markt bewerkt door Bazalt, HCO, Fontys Fydes en OnderwijsAdvies.

I’ve been thinking about writing a blog on one-tailed tests for a while. The reason is that one of the changes I’m making in my re-write of DSUS4 is to alter the way I talk about one-tailed tests. You might wonder why I would want to alter something like that – surely if it was good enough for the third edition then it’s good enough for the fourth? Textbook writing is quite an interesting process because when I wrote the first edition, I was very much younger, and to some extent the content was driven by what I saw in other textbooks. Even as the book has evolved over certain editions, the publishers will get feedback from lecturers who use the book, I get emails from people who use the book, and so, again, content gets driven a bit by what people who use the book want and expect to see. People expect to learn about one-tailed tests in an introductory statistics book and I haven’t wanted to disappoint them. However, as you get older you also get more confident about having an opinion on things. So, although I have happily entertained one-tailed tests in the past, in more recent years I have felt that they are one of the worse aspects of hypothesis testing that should probably be discouraged.
