Writing, technology and Teens (Pew Internet & American Life Project)
Teens write a lot, but they do not think of their emails, instant and text messages as writing. This disconnect matters because teens believe good writing is an essential skill for success and that more writing instruction at school would help them.
Welcome to PamelaHill.org - a site about books, technology and other library related stuff.
I'm a Teacher-Librarian, and since this is my site, it will focus on all the things I love: books, authors, information skills, research, and other cool techno-stuff that has become a huge part of libraries today.
One of my favorite characteristics of the education world is the willingness to help others by spreading useful information around. As a teacher and librarian for a few years, I've gathered some great information, and I'm getting great new stuff all the time from all over the place. I hope to spread some of it around. I also enjoy meeting new people and networking in the library, writing, education and technology worlds!

Scrivener (MacWorld)
Scrivener organizes each writing project, or draft, as a series of folders and files; each project can include relevant keywords, notes, and a brief synopsis. Outline and corkboard views provide drag-and-drop reordering of these elements, and the Edit Scrivenings button displays selected documents, or the entire draft, as a single document. It’s easy to assign custom labels for chapters, concepts, character sheets, and such, or set a status—first draft, rewrite, final draft—for individual draft items. But you can’t do so for multiple documents at once, which can prove annoying.
A Year of Reading: National Poetry Month Writing Prompts
Bud the Teacher is celebrating National Poetry Month by inviting readers to write some poems and publish them on blogs, his site, etc. His first prompt along with his poem inspired me to write this poem this morning. Who knew that I could enjoy spending a few minutes writing a poem based on a photo Bud shared? I love the variety of poems that people have already written in response to one prompt. It would be fun for lots of us in the Kidlitosphere to join into Bud's celebration.

Writing Our Future: Letters to the Next President
Letters to the Next President: Writing Our Future is an online writing and publishing project for students, ages 13 - 18, co-sponsored by Google and the National Writing Project. We invited young people to write about the issues and concerns that they feel are central to their future, issues they would hope our next president would act on. Topics were chosen by the students themselves to reflect their specific personal, regional, and age-related interests. Teachers and mentors guided students through the process of writing a persuasive letter or essay to the presidential candidates using Google Docs.
