The real reason Americans don't read - Opinions
There was happy news for people like me Monday, when the National Endowment for the Arts announced the latest results of its annual survey of American reading habits. The percentage of Americans who reported reading a novel, a short story, a poem or a play has gone up, from 46.7 percent in 2002 to 50.2 percent in the last year - the first increase in that percentage since the NEA began investigating national reading habits in the 1980s. The NEA's 2002 report was titled "Reading at Risk;" this year's report is called "Reading on the Rise."
Twitter Stats, Graphing Your Twitter Activity | Laughing Squid
-
Seattle developer Damon Cortesi has written a great little perl script that will generate your Twitter Stats which you can be make into some cool graphs of using the Numbers app. Here are my current Twitter Stats.
You will need to know how to access a terminal and navigate the OS X filesystem, but after that it just takes one command to run. Mine took a couple of minutes to finnish since it needed to parse 93 pages of Twitter data, which I then just cut-and-past into the Numbers template that Damon provided.
Twitter Stats
-
This is a totally ugly engine to produce some stats from your
Twitter feed and present them with the Google Charts API, including
Tweets per hour of the day, total Tweets per day/month, top @replies
and top overall @s.The code was adapted from http://dcortesi.com/2007/12/27/twitter-stats/.
None of your Tweets or other data is stored on the server once the
statistics are produced.Note: Once you submit your username and email address below, it can
take up to 15 minutes to produce your statistics, especially if you have a
large timeline. So that you don't have to wait around, we will email you when
your stats are ready. This is the only reason we collect your email address,
and it is not stored at all once your stats are generated.
