PDL ("Perl Data Language") gives standard Perl the ability to compactly store and speedily manipulate the large N-dimensional data arrays which are the bread and butter of scientific computing.
PDL turns Perl in to a free, array-oriented, numerical language similar to (but, we believe, better than) such commerical packages as IDL and MatLab. One can write simple perl expressions to manipulate entire numerical arrays all at once. Simple interactive shells, pdl2 and perldl, are provided for use from the command line along with the PDL module for use in Perl scripts.
This module offers a simple API for I/O, timer, signal, child process and completion events, independent of a specific event loop.
Construder is a 3D game written in Perl and C, featuring a dynamic infinite world of cubes to explore and change. In an artificial infinite structure the player has to gather resources for construction purposes and his basic survival. It's 3D engine and basic game play is inspired by Minecraft and Infiniminer.
The goal is to get 10,000,000 score points and get the "Construder" rank. There are multiple ways to gain score points: building blocks in the world (for example for your home base), constructing items (such as teleporters for easier travel, message beacons for navigation or even programmable robots - which you can program to help you building things or gathering resources). Another way to earn many score points is to finish construction assignments.
Dangers the player might run into are starvation, as all his actions require biological energy and the randomly appearing robot drones, which - on a task to cleanup the world - teleport the player far away
Prophet
Prophet is a new kind of database designed for the post Web-2.0 world. It's made to let you collaborate with your friends and coworkers without needing any kind of special server or internet provider.
Prophet's buzzword-laden pitch reads something like this:
A grounded, semirelational, peer to peer replicated, disconnected, versioned, property database with self-healing conflict resolution.

Today I finished my first twitter app. My main point in posting this entry is to talk about how wonderful is Perl, and in particular how fancy is Net::Twitter. If you already know these things you can safely stop reading now.
My completed application is two programs each of which appear to be 67 lines long. In addition to providing a feed into Twitter I also threw in a CGI component, just for giggles.
Including registering the app it took about three hours, most of which was spent misreading the Net::OAuth and Net::Twitter::OAuth docs. Here's the short version of my storyIf you are targeting twitter don't bother with either of those.. Everything you need is done though a Net::Twitter instance; however, there's a bit of documentation you'll want hiding over in the pod for Net::Twitter::Role::OAuth. Longer version -with complete programs- follow.
As some may know, I'm the son of New York Times Best-selling Grampa Steven Brust. The app I was charged to create generates a Quote Of the Day to be sent from @Dragaera - a twitter account shamelessly promoting his bread-winning universe, pushing schwag and so on.
Noooo, not another Twitter client! Yes, another Twitter client. The difference here is that you're dealing with a multi-functional, fully 100% text, Perl command line client.
* In interactive mode, it is a fully interactive client with asynchronous b
"Server2Go is a Webserver that runs out of the box without any installation and on write protected media. This means that web applications based on Server2Go can be used directly from cdrom, a usb stick or from any folder on a hard disk without the hassle of configuring Apache, PHP or MySQL.
Server2Go allows you to create a standalone working web site or PHP application on a CD-ROM. There are many examples of its possible useses such as catalogue software, calculation programmes, image campaigns (CMS-based), computer based training lessons or other applicatons. Most PHP-Software such as the content management system Joomla or the computer based training software Moodle can be used from CD-ROM with the help of Server2Go."

This is where PSGI saves people money. PSGI is the generalization of Catalyst::Engine and HTTP::Engine and several other projects over the years (yes dating all the way back to Apache::Request and Apache::PerlRun which emulated a CGI environment in mod_perl). It de-couples the application deployment logic from the business logic and allows you to perform trivial changes to the deployment.
