Firefox by no means ended IE’s monopoly, but it certainly did within tech savvy circles. I would really love to see the web browser statistics of digg, youtube, and wikipedia registered users. I truly believe that they would be skewed towards Firefox.

But not all is lost, there is a glimmer of hope. Yes two projects that are gaining steam, and are gaining lots of coverage. Google’s Android (also here and here ) and FIC’s OpenMoko (here and here) could serve as two platforms that could catapult the whole industry into the greener pastures. Both could play the role that Firefox played with the web.

The inactivated vaccine was devised by American physician Jonas Salk (1914–1995) in the 1950s. The vaccine contains all three serotypes of the poliovirus. The viruses, which are inactivated and incapable of causing an infection, are grown in a type of monkey kidney cell. When injected, the viruses stimulate an immune response that is protective. Initially, vaccine impurity was the cause of illness and death in some people who received the Salk vaccine. Refinement of the vaccine preparation eliminated these unwanted effects. Still, in the 1990s, a controversy arose regarding the vaccine as a suggested source of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), based on the known presence of the AIDS virus in monkey tissue cells. However, scrupulously conducted examinations ruled out this suggestion.

The oral vaccine was developed by Polish-born American physician Albert Sabin (1906–1993) in the late 1950s and was licensed for use in 1963. This vaccine has largely replaced the injected Salk vaccine. The vaccine also contains live, but weakened (attenuated) poliovirus.

Para el pueblo

En el lado oculto de la luna estaban los rincones para los de abajo. Cantinas, pulquerías, tinacales y centros de salud para el pueblo, crecieron como hongos en la periferia de la ciudad y en el centro.

La Chiripa lucía en sus anaqueles y barras de madera y concreto todo lo que el bebedor de pulque, neutle y curados debía saber y usar. Tornillos (vasos delgados labrados en forma de rosca para un medio litro), cacarizas (jarras de cristal de un litro), chivatos (tarros de un cuarto de litro), catrinas (jarras lisas para un litro), jícaras (de un litro, medio y un cuarto de litro), violas (jarras largas de medio litro), tripas (vasos altos y delgados de medio litro).

Los intelectuales -en especial los izquierdosos- tenían su templo del saber beber: La Rosita, pulquería ubicada en Coyoacán, en Londres y Aguayo.

En 1943 Frida Kahlo era maestra de pintura en la escuela La Esmeralda. La Rosita era administrada por un amigo suyo, quien accedió a que los alumnos de Frida plasmaran en la fachada un mural.

Antes de hacerlo, cubrieron con pulque la fachada a manera de experimento y para que el mural fuera aún más especial. Los rostros de Diego Rivera, de Frida, de la poetisa Pita Amor, Salvador Novo y Carlos Pellicer quedaron en un fresco que duró poco tiempo sobre el yeso de la pulcata.
