-
Well, it’s a move that we here in Michigan have been expecting for a while, but now it’s official. I literally got the message just moments ago: Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land has filed for the Michigan Governor’s race. The Problem with the Republican Party « Republican Ranting
-
So, I was taking a shower a couple days ago, when I had an epiphany (it’s where I always do all my great thinking). I came up with this phrase: “A tax-and-spend liberal is better than a tax-cut-and-spend conservative. At least the liberal can balance the budget.”

Barack Obama Is Not the 44th President (Yet) « Republican Ranting
-
Perhaps it’s just me, but I’ve noticed a lot of people calling Barack Obama “our 44th President,” and I don’t remember this happening after other elections. President Bush was called President-Elect, and I wasn’t old enough to remember 1992, but from searches on the Internet, there weren’t a lot of people labelling him President before January (granted, there were no blogs back then). I’ve seen all over the Internet blogs rejoicing about Barack Obama being our 44th President. I’ve seen t-shirts with the seal with the label “44th President of the United States of America.” I will say that the media has done a good job in calling him “President-Elect” and not calling him the 44th President.

Hey everybody - I just wanted to make sure you remember to get out and vote today. I also want to make one final plea to voters (especially Michiganders): don’t vote straight ticket. That is an uneducated vote. Go out and research ALL of the candidates, and vote for the best one.

Federal Judge Orders Ohio Secretary of State to Purge Voter Rolls « Republican Ranting
-
Today, U.S. District Judge George C. Smith ruled in a suit filed by the Ohio Republican Party filed in September. He ruled that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner (Dem) must adhere to the Help America Vote Act by matching newly registered voters’ information against the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and/or Social Security Administration databases. She must alo tell the Board of Elections which voters’s registration info doesn’t match the databases. Brunner was also ordered to establish a process by which county election boards could do the sameSmith wrote in his ruling (unfortunately I can’t get the whole thing), “Plaintiffs assert, and the court agrees, that it is hard to imagine a public interest more compelling than safeguarding the legitimacy of the election of the president of the United States.”

Holy Crap! This Election Could Get Weird: An Electoral College Tie? Acting President Pelosi? « Republican Ranting
-
So, I’ve been looking through polls lately, and the way it stands now, if Obama holds all the states he currently has, and McCain picks up all the tossup states, we’d have an Electoral College tie (assuming that all the electors keep their promise to vote for their party).

McCain Asks Obama, Debate Commission to Postpone Debate Due to Economic Crisis « Republican Ranting
-
Today, John McCain issued the following statement regarding the economic crisis:
Remarks on the Economic Crisis
September 24, 2008
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.
