11-Year-Old Shoots Dad’s Pregnant Fiancee; Should Be Charged As An Adult « Republican Ranting
Alright, so I just heard about this story and figured I’d give my input. This story comes out of Wampum, Pennsylvania: 11-year-old Jordan Anthony Brown (pictured on the left; photo courtesy of the Lawrence County Prison) shot and killed his dad’s pregnant fiancee at point blank range, and is now being charged as an adult. Brown allegedly shot the woman with his 20-gauge shotgun in the back of the head. He had wrapped the shotgun in a sheet to muffle the sound

Illinois House Votes to Impeach Governor Rod Blagojevich « Republican Ranting
-
The Illinois House of Representatives, just in the past hour, voted to impeach Governor Rod Blagojevich (D), 114-1. The only representative voting against impeachment was Milton Patterson (D-South Chicago). Representative Elga Jefferies (D-Chicago) voted “present.” Typical Cook County politics, if you ask me. I commend the other 114 representatives who voted in the affirmative to impeach Governor Blagojevich. This will no go to the Senate, who will decide whether or not to remove Blagojevich from office.

Yesterday, 2 cousins from Eastpointe, Michigan, both high school freshmen, were arrested for throwing rocks on cars driving along I-94 in Saint Clair Shores. The teens claimed that they did it because they were bored of playing video games. In all, 16 cars were damaged, and in addition to probably paying for the damage, the teens have been charged as juveniles with malicious destruction of property. Here’s a FOX 2 video report on the incident

Parents of 2 Suspended Cheerleaders File Lawsuit Over Nude Photos « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so here’s a story I heard about that’s supposed to be featured on the news tonight, but I figured I’d go digging and just do the story now: On Monday the parents of two Bothell High School cheerleaders filed a lawsuit in the King County Superior Court against the Northshore School District (in Washington). The suit alleges that school officials acted unfairly when they suspended the girls from the squad earlier this year after nude photos of the teens circulated through the student body via text messages.

Effigy of Sarah Palin Hanging by a Noose is Despicable, but Legal « Republican Ranting
-
I’ve seen some pretty weird Halloween decorations before, but this one probably tops them all. In West Hollywood, California, Chad Michael Morisette has put up an effigy of Sarah Palin hanging by a noose with John McCain up on the chimeny with flames coming out of it (as well as skeletons and spider webs on other areas of the house).
Alaska Senator Ted Stevens Found Guilty on All Counts of Making False Statements; Hello Senator Mark Begich « Republican Ranting
-
Well, the jury of 8 women and 4 men has deliberated and has come back to find Senator Stevens (R-AK) guilty on all 7 counts of making false statements (lying on U.S. Senate financial disclosure forms for 1999-2006).
Before entering the courtroom, Stevens told reporters, “Put this down. I am not stepping down. I’m going to run through, and I’m going to win this election.” After hearing the verdict, he allegedly told his wife, Catherine, “It’s not over yet.”

Cop Arresting Cameraman for Filming Peaceful Protest: “I Can Do Whatever I Want” « Republican Ranting
-
Whoa! The most disturbing part of that was the police officer’s comment, “I can do whatever I want” in response to the reporter, Christine Sloan, saying, “You can’t arrest him.” (I don’t have the officer’s name - if somebody could find it, that’d be awesome!)

Michigan Restaurant Offers Free Pizza for McCain Signs « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so you have Salvatore’s Pizzeria (Warren, Michigan) who’s offering free pizza to people who bring in yard signs. Diana, the owner claims that she just wants people to turn in their signs since McCain left the state. OK, people aren’t going to do that. Honestly though, if I worked for the Republican party, I’d be doing that as a means to get food for my campaign headquarters.

Live: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Pleading Guilty to Charges, Expected to Resign « Republican Ranting
-
This is happening live. Kwame Kilpatrick is about to plead guilty, and he’s expected to resign as Mayor of Detroit.
The judge (supposed to be Judge David Groner, but I never saw anything that said anything today confirming that’s who the judge was) is now informing him of what right’s he is giving up (trial by jury, being assumed innocent until proven guilty, being able to testify, being able to cross examine witnesses, appeal this case).
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s Guilty Plea Postponed Until Tomorrow Morning « Republican Ranting
-
This is developing news coming out of Detroit right now. Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick had been expected to plead guilty to charges in the original text message scandal case at 5:15 P.M. EDT today before Judge Edward Ewell Jr., the presiding judge of the Criminal Division of Wayne County Circuit Court. Apparently the details of the plea deal hadn’t been completely ironed out by 5:15, so the decision was made to postpone the court appearance until 9:00 A.M. tomorrow, where he’ll appear in front of Judge David Groner.

Don’t Put Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick In Jail for Violating His Bond … « Republican Ranting
-
… because it’s just too dang funny to watch him violate his bond over and over again. But seriously, I would rather have him out of jail and committing more crimes, than kept in jail where he can’t commit any, and here’s why: I don’t trust Detroiters to remove him from office yet. The more crimes he commits, the more likely it is that he gets the boot, and as long as he’s not harming anybody right now, I say let him continue to violate his bond.

You know, every blogger at on point or another sees a story unfolding before him/her and thinks, “This is gonna make an incredible blog post,” and the news interview I saw today was exactly that. Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Jailed for Going to Canada « Republican Ranting
-
Well, Kwame Kilpatrick has been sent to jail, after it was revealed that he went to Windsor, Ontario for a business trip, violating his bond. Kwame apologized for the mistake in not telling the judge of the trip, saying, “I’ve been living in an incredible state of pressure and scrutiny.” He said that he had gone to Windsor to discuss the sale of the tunnel between the U.S. and Canada, saying, “We got the deal back on track. … It wasn’t a spur of the moment, willy nilly, I can frolic in Canada.”

Alaska Senator Ted Stevens Indicted; Department of Justice Makes a Statement « Republican Ranting
-
So, on Tuesday night, news broke that Ted Stevens (or “Uncle Ted” as he’s sometimes referred to in Alaska) (R-AK), who I love for his firey personality, but strong disagree with on many issues (pork barrel spending, his stances on abortion, to name a couple), was indicted for seven felony counts of making false statements on Senate financial disclosure reports between 1999 and 2006. He is accused of concealing over $250,000 worth of house renovations and gifts from VECO Corp. A copy of the indictment can be found here.

Noose Student at Central Michigan University Will Not Be Charged With Ethnic Intimidation « Republican Ranting

This is breaking news - I just heard about it from the CM-Life.
Isabella County Prosecutor Larry Burdick has said that he will not be pressing charges against the 28-year-old male engineering student who hung a noose in the Industrial Educational Technology Building back in November. (My previous posts on this subject can be found here, here, here, here, and here).

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Shoves a Cop Off a Porch, Faces Assault Charges « Republican Ranting
-
Well, the Kwame Kilpatrick scandal continues. Early last week, sheriff’s deputy Brian White was serving a subpoena to Bobby Ferguson, a friend of Kilpatrick’s. Kilpatrick threw White into his partner, Joann Kinney, and made a comment shaming her (a black woman) for working with a white man.

Well, here’s a story you don’t hear too often. A 19-year-old from Minneapolis (a student from the University of Minnesota) has been charged with a felony (bribery, treating, and soliciting) in the Hennepin County District Court on Thursday for putting his (presidential election) vote up on eBay. The bidding started at $10, and he would vote for the candidate of the winning bidder’s choice, or he would not vote at all if that’s what the winner wished. He said that he would take a picture of his ballot to prove it.

Councilwoman JoAnn Watson Pleads With Kwame Kilpatrick to Resign: “Nobody wants a white woman in Lansing to decide the fate of a black man in Detroit” « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so here’s what happened:
JoAnn Watson had been in talks with the Mayor since the weekend, trying to get him to resign. She had even called him as late as 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, right before the city council met, where they voted on 2 ways of ousting him.
After the meeting, and the votes to oust Kilpatrick, Watson’s aides gave her a piece of paper, a message from Kilpatrick urging her to reconsider her vote.
