Obama Advisor: Obama Likely to Not Repeal the Bush Tax Cuts « Republican Ranting
-
Well, I called this one (not on this blog, but another website I post on) over a month ago, when he said that a recession may make him delay the repealment of the Bush tax cuts. Well, this morning on Meet the Press, an advisor on his transition team, Bill Daley (Secretary of Commerce under President Clinton), said that it’s looking like Obama isn’t going to push for them to be repealed, but just let them expire in 2011.

Hillary Clinton to Be Secretary of State; Bill Richardson to be Secretary of Commerce « Republican Ranting
-
This has just broke in. We’ve been suspecting it all day, but today, sources have just confirmed that Hillary Clinton (D-NY) has been offered the position of Secretary of State by President-Elect Obama, and a source close to Senator Clinton has confirmed that she is expected to accept the position.

Barack Obama Is Not the 44th President (Yet) « Republican Ranting
-
Perhaps it’s just me, but I’ve noticed a lot of people calling Barack Obama “our 44th President,” and I don’t remember this happening after other elections. President Bush was called President-Elect, and I wasn’t old enough to remember 1992, but from searches on the Internet, there weren’t a lot of people labelling him President before January (granted, there were no blogs back then). I’ve seen all over the Internet blogs rejoicing about Barack Obama being our 44th President. I’ve seen t-shirts with the seal with the label “44th President of the United States of America.” I will say that the media has done a good job in calling him “President-Elect” and not calling him the 44th President.

Obama’s Proposed Capital Gains Tax Increase Would Kill the Economy « Republican Ranting
-
This is something that isn’t often talked about, but due to the current state of the economy, it’s important that this is brought up.
To understand what I’m about to say, you need to understand one principle about American economics: When the stock market suffers (or even only the Dow Jones for that matter), people panic, and the economy nose dives.

“Barack Osama” Listed as Candidate on Ballot in Rensselaer County, New York « Republican Ranting
-
In Rensselaer county New York, some funny typing went on when the absentee ballot was made up. In row 1A for the Presidential election, “Barack Osama” is listed instead of “Barack Obama.”

Did Barack Obama’s “Lipstick on a Pig” Comment Refer to Sarah Palin? « Republican Ranting
-
OK, so I’m sure that many of you have heard accusations that Barack Obama said the phrase “lipstick on a pig,” referring to Sarah Palin. Let’s put that phrase into context. This is from an Obama speech in Virginia on Tuesday:

Analysis of Rudy Giuliani’s Speech at the RNC « Republican Ranting
-
He’s talking about him supporting John McCain, just like he said he would. “This year, with what’s at stake, 2008 IS the most important election in our lifetime, and we’d better get it right.” A great quote from Giuliani. It’s emphasizing the fact that, sure we say that every year, but this year its actually true. This is a major cornerstone for American and whoever wins will have a huge impact on the future of this nation.

Until then, I’ll give some thoughts about the pick of Palin:

Bill Clinton Contemplating Voting for Obama? He Says He’s Not « Republican Ranting
-
News broke yesterday that Bill Clinton spoke at the International Leaders Forum at the Stage Theater in Denver and said the following: “Suppose for example you’re a voter. And you’ve got candidate X and candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don’t think that person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half the issues, but you believe that on the other half, the candidate will be able to deliver. For whom would you vote? — This has nothing to do with what’s going on now.”

OK, so I’m waiting for Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer to get done - he’s actually a good speaker, really energetic and fun. I disagree with what he’s saying, but he’s a really likeable, down-to-earth guy. Wow, this guy is just getting the crowd fired up. Talking a lot about oil. He has FIRED up the crowd. They’re all cheering for him. He just asked who’d be the next President and somebody just raised a Hillary sign. My liberal roommate just said, “Make him his roommate, not Biden.”
Live Analysis of Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner’s Speech at the DNC « Republican Ranting

Mark Warner just entered the stage.
“No American need be left out or left behind.”
“The global competition won’t be one with yesterdays ideas,” and something about a President who can’t lead.
Hang on - got interrupted. Stupid Alan Colmes.

Analysis of Michelle Obama’s Speech at the DNC « Republican Ranting

I’ll be live blogging this. I’m watching the video now.
Looking good so far, but not as inspirational as Ted Kennedy’s. “Who names their kid Barack Obama, so this kid has to be weird” - that’s a great quote (sorry if I screwed it up a bit).

McCain Ad: Former Clinton Delegate Turned McCain Supporter « Republican Ranting
-
It’s a good ad. I would’ve liked it better if she’d have done that on her own, instead of going to the McCain campaign to do it, because it looks more forced that way, but it still shows the fact that a lot of Clinton supporters are 1) mad about Obama being the nominee and 2) willing to actually do something about it.

House Committee Votes to Hold Karl Rove in Contempt of Congress « Republican Ranting
-
Earlier this week, the House Judiciary Committee (chaired by John Conyers [D-MI]) voted 20-14 along party lines to hold Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for not showing up to testify back in early July. This vote was only a recommendation, and it will be up to Nancy Pelosi whether or not to bring this for a vote before the full House in September. If they did vote to hold him in contempt, the citation would be forwarded to the Justice Department for prosecution, or file a lawsuit, as she has done against Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers.

Alright - here’s another one of my stories that I’m posting as a catch-up from vacation.
Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) testified before the House Judiciary Committee (chaired by John Conyers [D-MI]), saying, “The decision before us is whether to demand accountability for one of the gravest injustices imaginable.”

Focus on the Family’s James Dobson Will Endorse John McCain « Republican Ranting
-
Early last week (while I was on vacation), I saw a news story about Dr. James Dobson, from Focus on the Family, saying that he might endorse McCain. So, I dug around and found the whole quote, from Dr. Dobson’s July 21st podcast. With him is Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. The podcast is originally available on the Focus on the Family website:
