Vladimir Putin Warns U.S. Not to Fall into Socialism « Republican Ranting
-
Well, it appears as if Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin knows more about economics than President Obama. The following is an excerpt of Putin’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland (transcript courtesy of the Wall Street Journal). The full speech can be found here
Lansing, Michigan Mayor: Automotive Union Members Have Sacrificed Enough « Republican Ranting
-
Yesterday on Happening Now on FOX News, Virg Bernero, the Mayor of Lansing Michigan, said that auto industry workers have already sacrificed enough and it’s time for Wall Street to start making some sacrifices. Watch the video (courtesy of FOX News), and I’ll discuss it below

ACLU Director: Bush Was “Very worst President for civil liberties” « Republican Ranting
-
A couple days ago on the Colbert Report, Steven Colbert interviewed American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Director Anthony Romero. In the interview, Romero said that Bush was the “very worst President for civil liberties,” and later that he was ”the worst President in 8 long years.” Perhaps he meant “for 8 long years,” since he was the only President in the past 8 years, so Romero’s statement really didn’t make sense. (Sorry this is up a few days late - I lost me entire draft that I wrote the 1st time, and that took a few hours to do.) Anyway, watch the video, and I’ll discuss his statements below.

Another Perspective on the Auto Bailout « Republican Ranting
-
I came across a column by economist Thomas Sowell this morning entitled “Postponing Reality,” and I’d just like to discuss part of this column with you:
We are told that the collapse of the Big Three automakers in Detroit would have repercussions across the country, causing mass layoffs among firms that supply the automobile makers with parts, and shutting down automobile dealerships from coast to coast.

A Michigander’s Perspective: The Goverment Should Not Bail Out the Auto Industry « Republican Ranting
-
As rumors fly that a $25 billion bailout of the auto industry may actually come to a vote in the Congress, I figured that I, a citizen of Metro Detroit and Michigan should weigh in.
First, the facts:
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has called for “emergency and limited financial assistance” for General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler where legislation would be passed that would make the automakers eligible for financial support under the $700 billion bailout bill that was passed in October.

Joe Biden: “We’re gonna have an international crisis to test the mettle of [Obama]“ « Republican Ranting
-
Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy. And he’s gonna have to make some really tough — I don’t know what the decision’s gonna be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it’s gonna happen.

Russia Is Overstepping It’s Bounds by Invading Georgia « Republican Ranting

Alright, I have to admit, I was a little behind in this story - I don’t know why, I just hadn’t heard anything about it until Saturday, and this is my first opportunity to post about it.

Central Michigan University Impliments a Ban on Professors Running for Public Office, Including Congressional Candidate Gary Peters « Republican Ranting
-
This is part 2 in a weekly series on the race for Michigan’s 9th Congressional District. This was supposed to be a post about fundraising, but we’ve had some interesting developments come up in the past week. Central Michigan University proposed a policy that would go in effect on July 1st, that would require “full-time employees of the university … to either resign or take an unpaid leave of absence when they comply with candidacy filing requirements, 60 days prior to the date set forth for the election relating to the sought-after public office, whichever date is closer to the elections”

Nevada’s Democratic Casino Caucuses Are a Go « Republican Ranting
-
This is kinda a Part II to my post yesterday about Kucinich’s lawsuit (http://inkslwc.wordpress.com/2008/01/18/analysis-of-kucinichs-lawsuit-against-nbc-universal-inc/).
The U.S. District Court for Nevada Judge, James Mahan, has rejected a lawsuit by 5 Democrats & the Nevada State Education Association (NSEA) against the Nevada Democratic Party & the Democratic National Committee. The NSEA said that allowing for people within 2.5 miles of the Las Vegas Strip to vote at at-large caucuses held in casinos gave an unfair advantage to the Culinary Union, who has publicly endorsed Barack Obama. Although they have not publicly endorsed Hillary Clinton, it is well known that most of the NSEA supports Clinton.
