Live Analysis of Governor Granholm’s Michigan State of the State Address « Republican Ranting

  • The Michigan State of the State address is about to begin. I will be live blogging the event, giving my analysis (so my apologies for any spelling errors - I’ll fix them eventually).
Alright, she’s entering the chamber (I’m not sure if this is the House or Senate - probably House since it’s bigger).

Wisconsin Court: Cheerleading Is a Contact Sport; Participants Can’t Be Sued for Accidents « Republican Ranting

  • Yesterday the Wisconsin Supreme Court unanimously ruled in a lawsuit brought by Brittany Noffke, a varsity basketball cheerleader at Holmen High School in western Wisconsin. While practicing a stunt for the first time before a basketball game in 2004, she fell backwards off the shoulders of another cheerleader and suffered a head injury. She then filed a lawsuit against the 16-year-old male cheerleader who was supposed to be her spotter but failed to catch her, as well as the school district and its insurer. Noffke claimed that the coach was negligent for failing to supervise the stunt and not making sure that mats were being used. (The court ruling can be found here.)

The Problem with the Republican Party « Republican Ranting

  • So, I was taking a shower a couple days ago, when I had an epiphany (it’s where I always do all my great thinking). I came up with this phrase: “A tax-and-spend liberal is better than a tax-cut-and-spend conservative. At least the liberal can balance the budget.”

Live Analysis of the Final Presidential Debate « Republican Ranting

  • Alright, we’re moments away from the beginning of the debate. As always, I’ll be watching CNN, who will have a focus group (undecided voters in Ohio) with a tracking rating of how people like what they’re hearing (broken up by men and women). WordPress just added an option to add polls, so I’ll see if I can get that working after the debate is over and post a poll about who won.

A Plea to All Michigan Voters (And Any Other Voters, Really) « Republican Ranting

  • Folks, I’m going to be straight with you here. I think we all know that it’s going to take a miracle for McCain to win Michigan (I won’t say it’s impossible - I’ve learned my lesson once before).

Live Analysis of the September 26 Presidential Debate on Foreign Policy « Republican Ranting

  • We’re about a minute out, I’ll be live blogging the whole event. Jim Lehrer (PBS) is the moderator. I’ll be watching CNN (it would be FOX, but they weren’t ready on time).
The Ku Klux Klan is in the audience, we’ve heard, but not in robes and not protesting.

Obama Slams Chris Matthews and Cable News in a Joke During an Interview « Republican Ranting

  • During an interview at West Chester University (just outside Philadelphia, PA) with Chris Matthews on Hardball: College Tour, Obama was asked, “At any time in this campaign, did you have a chuckle … something … that you just went to bed laughing about.” Obama responded with, “Oh, I think that happens once a day, but then I stopped watching cable news.” Matthews responded, “Oh.”

Detroit Schools Graduate only 66% of SENIORS « Republican Ranting

  • So I was watching FOX news just now and they gave the statistic that “Detroit graduates only 66% of seniors,” emphasizing that only 66% of the kids who make it all the way through to their senior year actually graduate. So that means that the graduation rate of kids who enter Detroit public schools at kindergarten is probably below 50%! If you carry out the 66% rate down to just 10th grade (assuming that 33% drop out each year, like they do in their senior year), you’d have a rate of 28.75% of sophomores will graduate.
