Kansas Can Now Afford to Pay Tax Refunds and State Employees « Republican Ranting

  • Yesterday I was watching America’s Newsroom, and Megyn Kelly did a story about the budget crisis in Kansas. According to the Governor, Kathleen Sebelius (D), the state was not going to be able to pay tax refunds or state employees on time. Sebelius wants to borrow money from other state accounts within Kansas; however, Republican legislators want budget cuts because they feel Sebelius’s solution is irresponsible. Republican leaders in the state House and Senate (both where they’re in the majority) argued that the internal borrowing wasn’t legal until the Kansas had a balanced budget for the fiscal year (the fiscal year ends June 30).

Obama Bitter that Republicans Rejected the Stimulus Package? « Republican Ranting

  • So, I was just watching the news, and they were talking about a picture and caption of the White House website. Neil Cavuto (FOX News) was asking if the following caption was a cheap shot at Republicans. Here’s the picture (I’ll discuss it below and ask for your opinion) (see here for the original picture; it’s picture 4: http://www.whitehouse.gov/photogallery/The-story-of-the-economic-recovery-package/):

Obama Advisor: Obama Likely to Not Repeal the Bush Tax Cuts « Republican Ranting

  • Well, I called this one (not on this blog, but another website I post on) over a month ago, when he said that a recession may make him delay the repealment of the Bush tax cuts. Well, this morning on Meet the Press, an advisor on his transition team, Bill Daley (Secretary of Commerce under President Clinton), said that it’s looking like Obama isn’t going to push for them to be repealed, but just let them expire in 2011.

Barack Obama Is Not the 44th President (Yet) « Republican Ranting

  • Perhaps it’s just me, but I’ve noticed a lot of people calling Barack Obama “our 44th President,” and I don’t remember this happening after other elections. President Bush was called President-Elect, and I wasn’t old enough to remember 1992, but from searches on the Internet, there weren’t a lot of people labelling him President before January (granted, there were no blogs back then). I’ve seen all over the Internet blogs rejoicing about Barack Obama being our 44th President. I’ve seen t-shirts with the seal with the label “44th President of the United States of America.” I will say that the media has done a good job in calling him “President-Elect” and not calling him the 44th President.

Before entering the courtroom, Stevens told reporters, “Put this down. I am not stepping down. I’m going to run through, and I’m going to win this election.” After hearing the verdict, he allegedly told his wife, Catherine, “It’s not over yet.”

Newt Gingrich Slams MSNBC Reporter During Discussion on Sarah Palin’s Qualifications « Republican Ranting

  • Allen: But to be fair, her resumé is not something that we’re familiar seeing with Presidential candidates.
Gingrich: It’s stronger than Barack Obama’s. I don’t know why you guys walk around saying this baloney. She has a stronger resume than Obama. She’s been a real mayor, he hasn’t. She has been a real governor, he hasn’t. She’s been in charge of the Alaskan National Guard, he hasn’t. She was a whistle-blower who defeated an incumbent mayor.

Focus On the Family’s James Dobson Will “Pull that Lever” for John McCain « Republican Ranting

  • Late last week (right after Governor Sarah Palin(R-AK) gave her speech with John McCain), Focus on the Family’s Dr. James Dobson went on Dennis Prager’s radio show, and told people that he was endorsing McCain. I have the transcript below (thanks to Townhall.com for the transcript), with my analysis throughout the interview. This is a change from what Dobson had said earlier in the year, but I predicted that he’d endorse and vote for McCain, and it looks like I was right:

Analysis of Senator Joe Lieberman’s Speech at the RNC « Republican Ranting

  • Lieberman is now talking about Hurricane Gustav, and saying that it hurts all of us, because we’re one family. “The last thing we think about is whether one of the victims was a Democrat, or a Republican, because we’re all Americans.” Good quote.
