The Porn Industry Wants a Bailout Now « Republican Ranting
-
Folks, this is why I opposed the bailouts. I predicted this (not this EXACTLY - I don’t think ANYBODY predicted this exactly) - I predicted that after we began handing bailouts to financial institutions and auto makers, that everybody and his mother would ask for a bailout. Well, yesterday, that pretty much happened: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis that they plan on requesting that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout … a bailout of, you guessed it … the adult entertainment industry.

Another Perspective on the Auto Bailout « Republican Ranting
-
I came across a column by economist Thomas Sowell this morning entitled “Postponing Reality,” and I’d just like to discuss part of this column with you:
We are told that the collapse of the Big Three automakers in Detroit would have repercussions across the country, causing mass layoffs among firms that supply the automobile makers with parts, and shutting down automobile dealerships from coast to coast.

53% of Rescued Homeowners Still Not Paying Mortgages on Time « Republican Ranting
-
I was watching FOX News the other day, and Neil Cavuto the Great (yes, I’ve now given Cavuto the Republican Ranting honorary title of “the Great”) was discussing a bill before Congress that would help bankrupt homeowners restructure their mortgages. Cavuto discusses the issue with Wall Street Journal editorialist Steve Moore. Watch the video, and I’ll discuss it below

NOW We’re Officially in a Recession « Republican Ranting
-
I know this is a few days late, but life has been hectic (next week is final exam week for me). But this is something that I really wanted to post about.
Back in April, I made the statement that we were not in a recession, because we had not yet seen an economic decline “lasting more than a few months” (which is the definition given by the National Bureau for Economic Research [NBER]).

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford: “Don’t Bail Out My State” « Republican Ranting
-
I find myself in a lonely position. While many states and local governments are lining up for a bailout from Congress, I went to Washington recently to oppose such bailouts. I may be the only governor to do so.

Funny Video: How to Get Your Piece of the Bailout Pie « Republican Ranting

Last night on his show on FOX, Neil Cavuto gave 7 tips on how to get your piece of the bailout. It’s pretty funny. Take a look:
Representative Sherman to Auto Executives: Raise Your Hand if You Flew Here Commercially. No Hands Went Up « Republican Ranting
-
Now, I’ve never been a huge fan of Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA24), but he’s absolutely right here. If the automakers’ executives are going to fly to D.C. on a PRIVATE jet, they shouldn’t be lecturing Congress that they need more money.

Michigan Congressman Joe Knollenberg Supports Auto Industry Bailout « Republican Ranting
-
So, I was watching the news last night, and they had Representative Joe Knollenberg (R-MI9) on Neil Cavuto’s show discussing the bailout of the auto industry. Watch this and I’ll discuss it below:

Live Analysis of the Senate Vote on the New Bailout Bill: Bill Passes « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so I’ve been watching C-SPAN throughout the day as much as I could, and saw everything from the US-India nuclear agreement and the Amtrak bill to the discussion on the Financial Industry Bailout bill. They’ll be voting on that next, and I’ll be live blogging as they vote, whether it looks like it’ll pass or fail. The rumor is that it’s expected to pass the 60-vote threshold, since they added some tax cut packages; however, these packages were rejected earlier in the week by the house, so it may clear the Senate, but fail the House by more than H.R. 3997 did.

Unofficial Deal Reached in Congress on Financial Bailout Bill « Republican Ranting
-
Word has just come in that congress has reached at deal; however, this deal has NOT been written down officially on paper yet. This was a verbal deal made between Congressional leaders and the Bush administration. The House is expected to vote on this bill later today (Sunday), and then pass it on to the Senate for a vote on Monday. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson told reporters that the deal still has to be officially finalized, but “I think we’re there.”

McCain Will Participate in Tonight’s Debate « Republican Ranting
-
Well, I was just about to publish a post about the fate of tonight’s debate not being known when news broke from the McCain campaign that McCain will in fact participate in tonight’s debate. I think this may look bad since it’ll seem like he’s reneging on his promise to suspend his campaign to resolve the economic crisis. We’ll see if Obama plays that card or not. Hopefully the Senate will pass the bill (but a good bill, not the bailout that many want) before the debate, not just for McCain’s sake, but for the sake of the country. The following is my original post:

McCain Asks Obama, Debate Commission to Postpone Debate Due to Economic Crisis « Republican Ranting
-
Today, John McCain issued the following statement regarding the economic crisis:
Remarks on the Economic Crisis
September 24, 2008
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.
Ron Paul on Bailouts: “We Are Headed for a Rough Ride” « Republican Ranting

The following is Representative Ron Paul’s (R-TX) statements regarding government bailouts of financial institutions, with my analysis sprinkled throughout his comments:
Many Americans today are asking themselves how the economy got to be in such a bad spot.

Obama and McCain Respond to Takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac « Republican Ranting
-
Well, I already talked about the Federal takeover of Fannie and Freddie, and since then, I was able to find statements from the Presidential candidates. We’ll start with Barack Obama:
Originally, this was all we had from Obama:
I have been and will continue to monitor this situation closely, and I’ll evaluate whatever plan is put forth by this administration with the following three benchmarks:
Federal Government Takes Over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac « Republican Ranting
-
Well, as of this afternoon, it’s official: the 2 mortgage giants, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, will be placed in conservatorship under the supervision of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). Under this plan, the federal government will temporarily run Fannie and Freddie until the 2 companies become more stable.

I’m a Republican, And I’m Voting For a Tax for the Detroit Zoo « Republican Ranting
-
Well, this is a decision that wasn’t exactly easy for me to make, but now that I’ve made it, I’m confident that I made the right decision. I have decided that I will vote for the 0.1 mill to help fund the Detroit Zoo (a copy of the proposals can be found below). The zoo is located in Oakland County. The mill would be imposed for 10 years, from 2008 through 2017. If it passes, it is expected to raise a total of $14,968,031.11 if it passes in all 3 counties, as it is expected to.

Liberals, Media Ignore GDP Growth and Continue Calling It a Recession « Republican Ranting
-
At the end of July, a report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis came out saying that the Gross Domestic Product grew at a rate of 1.9% during the second quarter. Well, that’s good, considering that it only grew .9% in the first quarter.

Hillary Clinton: “I will be making no decisions tonight” on Quitting the Race « Republican Ranting
-
So, I’ve already analyzed Obama’s speech which was given shortly after Clinton’s following speech. She had been expected to suspend her campaign and acknowledge that Obama had reached the “magic number,” but not actually concede, but she didn’t even do that. She just said, “I’ll talk it over and decide later” essentially. Here’s the speech:
Race for Michigan’s 9th Congressional District: A Look at Money and Fundraising « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, after a moderately severe housing disaster last week (who knew flushing a toilet could cause so much chaos), I am back and blogging about THE RACE FOR MICHIGAN’S 9TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT! This week, I will be looking at the money (wishing that some of it were my own).
Who is giving who money?
I looked at the top 19 industry sectors
