11-Year-Old Shoots Dad’s Pregnant Fiancee; Should Be Charged As An Adult « Republican Ranting
Alright, so I just heard about this story and figured I’d give my input. This story comes out of Wampum, Pennsylvania: 11-year-old Jordan Anthony Brown (pictured on the left; photo courtesy of the Lawrence County Prison) shot and killed his dad’s pregnant fiancee at point blank range, and is now being charged as an adult. Brown allegedly shot the woman with his 20-gauge shotgun in the back of the head. He had wrapped the shotgun in a sheet to muffle the sound

Lucie Kim Frivolously Sues Miley Cyrus Over “Racist” Picture « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so I heard about this story yesterday, and it really got my blood boiling. Not because I’m terribly offended by Miley Cyrus, but because lawsuits in America have reached such an asinine stage.

Wisconsin Court: Cheerleading Is a Contact Sport; Participants Can’t Be Sued for Accidents « Republican Ranting
-
Yesterday the Wisconsin Supreme Court unanimously ruled in a lawsuit brought by Brittany Noffke, a varsity basketball cheerleader at Holmen High School in western Wisconsin. While practicing a stunt for the first time before a basketball game in 2004, she fell backwards off the shoulders of another cheerleader and suffered a head injury. She then filed a lawsuit against the 16-year-old male cheerleader who was supposed to be her spotter but failed to catch her, as well as the school district and its insurer. Noffke claimed that the coach was negligent for failing to supervise the stunt and not making sure that mats were being used. (The court ruling can be found here.)

ACLU Director: Bush Was “Very worst President for civil liberties” « Republican Ranting
-
A couple days ago on the Colbert Report, Steven Colbert interviewed American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Director Anthony Romero. In the interview, Romero said that Bush was the “very worst President for civil liberties,” and later that he was ”the worst President in 8 long years.” Perhaps he meant “for 8 long years,” since he was the only President in the past 8 years, so Romero’s statement really didn’t make sense. (Sorry this is up a few days late - I lost me entire draft that I wrote the 1st time, and that took a few hours to do.) Anyway, watch the video, and I’ll discuss his statements below.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) showed, again, that they were legal cowards again today. Take a look at the following press conference held by the 2 Senators and I’ll discuss what they said below

2 Michigan Teens Arrested for Throwing Rocks at Cars « Republican Ranting
-
Yesterday, 2 cousins from Eastpointe, Michigan, both high school freshmen, were arrested for throwing rocks on cars driving along I-94 in Saint Clair Shores. The teens claimed that they did it because they were bored of playing video games. In all, 16 cars were damaged, and in addition to probably paying for the damage, the teens have been charged as juveniles with malicious destruction of property. Here’s a FOX 2 video report on the incident

Parents of 2 Suspended Cheerleaders File Lawsuit Over Nude Photos « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so here’s a story I heard about that’s supposed to be featured on the news tonight, but I figured I’d go digging and just do the story now: On Monday the parents of two Bothell High School cheerleaders filed a lawsuit in the King County Superior Court against the Northshore School District (in Washington). The suit alleges that school officials acted unfairly when they suspended the girls from the squad earlier this year after nude photos of the teens circulated through the student body via text messages.

Cop Arresting Cameraman for Filming Peaceful Protest: “I Can Do Whatever I Want” « Republican Ranting
-
Whoa! The most disturbing part of that was the police officer’s comment, “I can do whatever I want” in response to the reporter, Christine Sloan, saying, “You can’t arrest him.” (I don’t have the officer’s name - if somebody could find it, that’d be awesome!)
Illinois City Bans Trick-or-Treating for Teenagers « Republican Ranting
-
Well, this is about the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a while. Belleville, Illinois passed an ordinance last Monday that restricted trick-or-treating. That sounds normal, right, most cities limit the time that kids can trick-or-treat. But the city isn’t just limiting when; they’re also limiting who can trick-or-treat. And it also limits the wearing of masks, to only Halloween (unless you’re under 12).

Federal Judge Orders Ohio Secretary of State to Purge Voter Rolls « Republican Ranting
-
Today, U.S. District Judge George C. Smith ruled in a suit filed by the Ohio Republican Party filed in September. He ruled that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner (Dem) must adhere to the Help America Vote Act by matching newly registered voters’ information against the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and/or Social Security Administration databases. She must alo tell the Board of Elections which voters’s registration info doesn’t match the databases. Brunner was also ordered to establish a process by which county election boards could do the sameSmith wrote in his ruling (unfortunately I can’t get the whole thing), “Plaintiffs assert, and the court agrees, that it is hard to imagine a public interest more compelling than safeguarding the legitimacy of the election of the president of the United States.”

Connecticut Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban « Republican Ranting
-
The Connecticut Supreme Court has just ruled in a lawsuit, filed by 8 gay couples back in 2004, on gay marriage. The Court has overturned the state’s ban on gay marriage, making Connecticut the third state to allow gay marriage (Massachusetts and California being the other 2). I’ll have an overview of the Court’s opinion once it’s out later.

Progressive Women’s Alliance Dishonest in Michigan Supreme Court Ads « Republican Ranting
-
So, today I heard that the Progressive Women’s Alliance of West Michigan was putting out advertisements claiming that Michigan’s Supreme Court is rated worst in the nation, citing a “study by the University of Chicago Law School.” The PWA, as well as Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly, has come out in opposition to Chief Justice Cliff Taylor, who is up for reelection this year (against Diane Hathaway and Robert Roddis), placing much of the blame on that rating on him.

Live: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Pleading Guilty to Charges, Expected to Resign « Republican Ranting
-
This is happening live. Kwame Kilpatrick is about to plead guilty, and he’s expected to resign as Mayor of Detroit.
The judge (supposed to be Judge David Groner, but I never saw anything that said anything today confirming that’s who the judge was) is now informing him of what right’s he is giving up (trial by jury, being assumed innocent until proven guilty, being able to testify, being able to cross examine witnesses, appeal this case).
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s Guilty Plea Postponed Until Tomorrow Morning « Republican Ranting
-
This is developing news coming out of Detroit right now. Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick had been expected to plead guilty to charges in the original text message scandal case at 5:15 P.M. EDT today before Judge Edward Ewell Jr., the presiding judge of the Criminal Division of Wayne County Circuit Court. Apparently the details of the plea deal hadn’t been completely ironed out by 5:15, so the decision was made to postpone the court appearance until 9:00 A.M. tomorrow, where he’ll appear in front of Judge David Groner.

Don’t Put Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick In Jail for Violating His Bond … « Republican Ranting
-
… because it’s just too dang funny to watch him violate his bond over and over again. But seriously, I would rather have him out of jail and committing more crimes, than kept in jail where he can’t commit any, and here’s why: I don’t trust Detroiters to remove him from office yet. The more crimes he commits, the more likely it is that he gets the boot, and as long as he’s not harming anybody right now, I say let him continue to violate his bond.

You know, every blogger at on point or another sees a story unfolding before him/her and thinks, “This is gonna make an incredible blog post,” and the news interview I saw today was exactly that. Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Jailed for Going to Canada « Republican Ranting
-
Well, Kwame Kilpatrick has been sent to jail, after it was revealed that he went to Windsor, Ontario for a business trip, violating his bond. Kwame apologized for the mistake in not telling the judge of the trip, saying, “I’ve been living in an incredible state of pressure and scrutiny.” He said that he had gone to Windsor to discuss the sale of the tunnel between the U.S. and Canada, saying, “We got the deal back on track. … It wasn’t a spur of the moment, willy nilly, I can frolic in Canada.”

House Committee Votes to Hold Karl Rove in Contempt of Congress « Republican Ranting
-
Earlier this week, the House Judiciary Committee (chaired by John Conyers [D-MI]) voted 20-14 along party lines to hold Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for not showing up to testify back in early July. This vote was only a recommendation, and it will be up to Nancy Pelosi whether or not to bring this for a vote before the full House in September. If they did vote to hold him in contempt, the citation would be forwarded to the Justice Department for prosecution, or file a lawsuit, as she has done against Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers.
Federal Judge Rules Bush’s Aides (Like Karl Rove) Can Be Subpoenaed « Republican Ranting
-
So, as I said, before, a case looking into executive privilege in regards to subpoenas from Congress was in a federal court, and the federal judge, U.S. District Judge John Bates (a Bush-nominated Judge), ruled that Bush’s aides are NOT exempt from Congressional subpoenas.
