Live Analysis of Governor Granholm’s Michigan State of the State Address « Republican Ranting

  • The Michigan State of the State address is about to begin. I will be live blogging the event, giving my analysis (so my apologies for any spelling errors - I’ll fix them eventually).
Alright, she’s entering the chamber (I’m not sure if this is the House or Senate - probably House since it’s bigger).

College Newspaper Labels McCain “Viagra’s Next Spokesman” « Republican Ranting

  • Well, my school’s news paper, the Central Michigan Life (Central Michigan University) has sunk to a new low. In a video article titled “Voters discuss their picks for president,” (the video has since been taken down) they have students saying who they voted for and used that candidate’s logo as the image. The problem came when Adam Kaminski, the video’s creator, used a logo which read, “Make Me Viagra’s Next Spokesman” on Senator McCain’s logo.

  • Alright, so last Tuesday, I did a prediction for the Presidential election, predicting an Obama with victory of 286-252, and said I’d update it this Tuesday. Well, I got a little busy, but here’s my updated prediction.

2 Weeks Away: My Prediction for the Presidential Election: Obama 286, McCain 252 « Republican Ranting

  • Alright, I’ve decided that I’m going to do a prediction at least each Tuesday before the election (and then a final one on Monday the 3rd). Here’s my prediction as of now. The first map will be a prediction of the percentage points, and the second map will be my confidence in who will win that state. Now, I know that my map has Obama lower than a lot of the maps circulating right now, but here’s why.

A Plea to All Michigan Voters (And Any Other Voters, Really) « Republican Ranting

  • Folks, I’m going to be straight with you here. I think we all know that it’s going to take a miracle for McCain to win Michigan (I won’t say it’s impossible - I’ve learned my lesson once before).

Live Analysis of the September 26 Presidential Debate on Foreign Policy « Republican Ranting

  • We’re about a minute out, I’ll be live blogging the whole event. Jim Lehrer (PBS) is the moderator. I’ll be watching CNN (it would be FOX, but they weren’t ready on time).
The Ku Klux Klan is in the audience, we’ve heard, but not in robes and not protesting.

Holy Crap! This Election Could Get Weird: An Electoral College Tie? Acting President Pelosi? « Republican Ranting

  • So, I’ve been looking through polls lately, and the way it stands now, if Obama holds all the states he currently has, and McCain picks up all the tossup states, we’d have an Electoral College tie (assuming that all the electors keep their promise to vote for their party).

Clarification About Ethics and Family Members in Politics « Republican Ranting

  • Recently some controversy arose concerning whether or not I represent a conservative voice on a panel for an event at Central Michigan (the event is Speak Up, Speak Out [SUSO]). The CM-Life wrote an article about a complaint by a student, Dennis Lennox, saying that he and conservatives were being discriminated against by the SUSO Committee not allowing him to be on the panel.

  • Alright, so today the College Republicans at Central Michigan University held our anual September 11th memorial, where we put out 2,998 flags on the lawn next to our library. I’ll go ahead and put those pictures below, and talk about what all happened today after the pictures

Ron Paul Will Be on the Ballot for President in Montana « Republican Ranting

  • The Constitution Party of Montana, which broke off from the national party back in 2006, decided not to stick with the national party’s nominee (Chuck Baldwin for President/Darrell Castle for VP), but rather nominate Ron Paul for President, and 2000 Constitution Party nominee, Michael Perutka, for Vice President.

A Political Analysis of the Movie Swing Vote « Republican Ranting

  • Alright, so tonight I saw Swing Vote. I liked it. Although it had a LOT of swearing (which added some humor at times, but was a little over the top at others), I’d give it a 9 out of 10.
First, we’ll look at how the election could’ve happened (spoiler alert - I eventually get into details, and a few things about the ending). This is not a map they showed in the movie, I made it myself - it’s a believable hypothetical that adds up to the numbers they give in the movie:

Noose Student at Central Michigan University Will Not Be Charged With Ethnic Intimidation « Republican Ranting

  • This is breaking news - I just heard about it from the CM-Life.
Isabella County Prosecutor Larry Burdick has said that he will not be pressing charges against the 28-year-old male engineering student who hung a noose in the Industrial Educational Technology Building back in November. (My previous posts on this subject can be found here, here, here, here, and here).

Minneapolis Teen Tries to Sell His Vote on Ebay, Now Faces Charges « Republican Ranting

  • Well, here’s a story you don’t hear too often. A 19-year-old from Minneapolis (a student from the University of Minnesota) has been charged with a felony (bribery, treating, and soliciting) in the Hennepin County District Court on Thursday for putting his (presidential election) vote up on eBay. The bidding started at $10, and he would vote for the candidate of the winning bidder’s choice, or he would not vote at all if that’s what the winner wished. He said that he would take a picture of his ballot to prove it.

Central Michigan University Impliments a Ban on Professors Running for Public Office, Including Congressional Candidate Gary Peters « Republican Ranting

  • This is part 2 in a weekly series on the race for Michigan’s 9th Congressional District. This was supposed to be a post about fundraising, but we’ve had some interesting developments come up in the past week. Central Michigan University proposed a policy that would go in effect on July 1st, that would require “full-time employees of the university … to either resign or take an unpaid leave of absence when they comply with candidacy filing requirements, 60 days prior to the date set forth for the election relating to the sought-after public office, whichever date is closer to the elections”

  • I would first like to thank Nick for allowing me the opportunity to cover stories on the race for Michigan’s 9th District for his site.
First, what exactly is Michigan’s 9th District?
It’s Oakland, Bloomfield, Southfield, and West Bloomfield townships; parts of Orion and Waterford townships; the cities of Farmington, Farmington Hills, Orchard Lake, Keego Harbor, Sylvan Lake, Pontiac, Auburn Hills

52 Are Arrested After Riot Near Michigan State University « Republican Ranting

  • So, I was just watching CBS national news and found out that there was a riot about an hour south of me, at Michigan State University on Saturday night / Sunday morning. Apparently, somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 students gathered for the Cedar Fest party at Cedar Village, a student housing complex just northeast of the actual campus.

Obama Slams Chris Matthews and Cable News in a Joke During an Interview « Republican Ranting

  • During an interview at West Chester University (just outside Philadelphia, PA) with Chris Matthews on Hardball: College Tour, Obama was asked, “At any time in this campaign, did you have a chuckle … something … that you just went to bed laughing about.” Obama responded with, “Oh, I think that happens once a day, but then I stopped watching cable news.” Matthews responded, “Oh.”
