Live Analysis of Governor Granholm’s Michigan State of the State Address « Republican Ranting
-
The Michigan State of the State address is about to begin. I will be live blogging the event, giving my analysis (so my apologies for any spelling errors - I’ll fix them eventually).
Alright, she’s entering the chamber (I’m not sure if this is the House or Senate - probably House since it’s bigger).

Yesterday on Happening Now on FOX News, Virg Bernero, the Mayor of Lansing Michigan, said that auto industry workers have already sacrificed enough and it’s time for Wall Street to start making some sacrifices. Watch the video (courtesy of FOX News), and I’ll discuss it below

President Obama Signs $787 Billion Economic Stimulus Plan « Republican Ranting
-
Moments ago, President Obama singed H.R. 1, the economic stimulus package into law. Unfortunately, I was taking a phone call during the beginning of his speech, so I couldn’t live blog it, but I did catch some key parts (I’ll do a summary of the whole speech later).

A Normal Day in the Senate: Economic Stimulus, Health Care … Pornography at the National Science Foundation? « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so I was watching the Senate discuss more amendments to H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the latest economic stimulus bill. Anyway, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) was talking about his amendment and some health care stuff, when all of a sudden, he breaks off on to the subject of pornography being viewed at work by some of the staff at the National Science Foundation, and that we need to make sure that stimulus money isn’t going towards wasting time at work (whether that’s pornography or not - people should be doing work at work, not viewing pornography or playing Free Cell). Here’s that video clip, courtesy of C-SPAN

Senate Approves Release of Additional $350 Bailout Funds « Republican Ranting
-
Yesterday, the Senate voted 42-52 to not block the release of the second half of the $700 billion bailout (the Troubled Asset Relief Program [TARP] money). Within hours of that vote, the Department of the Treasury announced that $118 billion of the $350 billion would be spent on bailing out Bank of America by investing in it and guaranteeing loans.

The Porn Industry Wants a Bailout Now « Republican Ranting
-
Folks, this is why I opposed the bailouts. I predicted this (not this EXACTLY - I don’t think ANYBODY predicted this exactly) - I predicted that after we began handing bailouts to financial institutions and auto makers, that everybody and his mother would ask for a bailout. Well, yesterday, that pretty much happened: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis that they plan on requesting that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout … a bailout of, you guessed it … the adult entertainment industry.

President Bush Approves $17.4 Billion Auto Bailout « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, well this morning, President Bush held a press conference where he announced his plans to give a $17.4 billion loan to GM and Chrysler. Here’s a video of that press conference (courtesy of FOX), and I have a transcript (again, courtesy of FOX) which I’ve done a “play-by-play” analysis of below

53% of Rescued Homeowners Still Not Paying Mortgages on Time « Republican Ranting
-
I was watching FOX News the other day, and Neil Cavuto the Great (yes, I’ve now given Cavuto the Republican Ranting honorary title of “the Great”) was discussing a bill before Congress that would help bankrupt homeowners restructure their mortgages. Cavuto discusses the issue with Wall Street Journal editorialist Steve Moore. Watch the video, and I’ll discuss it below

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford: “Don’t Bail Out My State” « Republican Ranting
-
I find myself in a lonely position. While many states and local governments are lining up for a bailout from Congress, I went to Washington recently to oppose such bailouts. I may be the only governor to do so.

Funny Video: How to Get Your Piece of the Bailout Pie « Republican Ranting

Last night on his show on FOX, Neil Cavuto gave 7 tips on how to get your piece of the bailout. It’s pretty funny. Take a look:
Representative Sherman to Auto Executives: Raise Your Hand if You Flew Here Commercially. No Hands Went Up « Republican Ranting
-
Now, I’ve never been a huge fan of Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA24), but he’s absolutely right here. If the automakers’ executives are going to fly to D.C. on a PRIVATE jet, they shouldn’t be lecturing Congress that they need more money.

Michigan Congressman Joe Knollenberg Supports Auto Industry Bailout « Republican Ranting
-
So, I was watching the news last night, and they had Representative Joe Knollenberg (R-MI9) on Neil Cavuto’s show discussing the bailout of the auto industry. Watch this and I’ll discuss it below:

Live Analysis of the Final Presidential Debate « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, we’re moments away from the beginning of the debate. As always, I’ll be watching CNN, who will have a focus group (undecided voters in Ohio) with a tracking rating of how people like what they’re hearing (broken up by men and women). WordPress just added an option to add polls, so I’ll see if I can get that working after the debate is over and post a poll about who won.

Live Analysis of the Vice Presidential Debate « Republican Ranting
-
Ifill: Talking about the Senate bill. “Was this the worst of Washington, or the best of Washington?”
Biden: Neither. The economic policies of the last 8 years were the worst part. Obama laid out rescue plan: Oversight, “focus on homeowners and folks on mainstreet, treat taxpayers like investors, and lastly, make sure CEOs don’t benefit.” “We will fundamentally change the … economic policy.”

Live Analysis of the Senate Vote on the New Bailout Bill: Bill Passes « Republican Ranting
-
Alright, so I’ve been watching C-SPAN throughout the day as much as I could, and saw everything from the US-India nuclear agreement and the Amtrak bill to the discussion on the Financial Industry Bailout bill. They’ll be voting on that next, and I’ll be live blogging as they vote, whether it looks like it’ll pass or fail. The rumor is that it’s expected to pass the 60-vote threshold, since they added some tax cut packages; however, these packages were rejected earlier in the week by the house, so it may clear the Senate, but fail the House by more than H.R. 3997 did.

Analysis of the House Voting Down Yesterday’s Bailout Bill « Republican Ranting
-
I had hoped to do a post on this yesterday, but I wanted to actually see the bill before I did anything on it. It took them a while to get the bill language up, and I found out that it was about 110 pages long (it is available here if you’re interested). Also, here’s the bill that the Senate didn’t vote to pass (it needed 60% to pass).

Unofficial Deal Reached in Congress on Financial Bailout Bill « Republican Ranting
-
Word has just come in that congress has reached at deal; however, this deal has NOT been written down officially on paper yet. This was a verbal deal made between Congressional leaders and the Bush administration. The House is expected to vote on this bill later today (Sunday), and then pass it on to the Senate for a vote on Monday. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson told reporters that the deal still has to be officially finalized, but “I think we’re there.”
