The NSW Department of Education is using asset-tracking software, RFID tags, and BIOS-embedded filtering smarts to roll out 240,000 netbook computers into what CIO Stephen Wilson calls "the most hostile environment you can roll computers into" - the local high school."

We’ve had 1-1 in our middle school since 2003, so our teachers are experienced teaching with laptops as a significant tool for teaching and learning. But there are some significiant differences between netbooks like the Classmates and the traditional pcs we’ve used heavily in the past (most recently Toshiba A8s and M700s). NSW Government awards contracts for school laptops | Australian IT
THE NSW Department of Education and Training has dished out the first contracts for the $386 million computers-in-schools program, with the spoils going to Lenovo, Microsoft and Adobe.
The computers will be given to over 200,000 government secondary school students in years 9 – 12 and 25,000 teachers across NSW.
