Other uses for Edmodo | Education IT | ZDNet.com

    • An easy communications tool for a school club: Websites are great, email lists are useful, but how easy and quick would it be for a club to share files, post links, and exchange information via Edmodo? If students or teachers are heavy email users, it’s easy to turn on email notifications of any type of message sent. Meeting dates and activities can easily be substituted for assignments and appear on the calendar
    • One heck of a PD tool: Teachers can easily interact with each other, administrators, and trainers, getting their professional development materials early as posted files or assignments. All of the websites, related readings, instructions, etc., for professional development among your staff are right there.
    • A project management tool for teams: Teams, task forces, committees, and working groups form all the time in educational settings, yet many struggle with communication more than anything. Edmodo lends itself to both impromptu and more formal interactions, as well as scheduling meetings, assigning tasks/to-do’s, etc.
    • A family communication tool: I went to a Clay Night at my 6-year-old’s school last night. We had a lot of fun, but I could also imagine an Edmodo night, inviting families to explore the site as an organizational tool and introducing its possible use in schools.

  • Dramatic scenes from Thursday's emergency landing of a US Airways flight into the Hudson River were first seen on social networking site Twitter.  User Janis Krums was aboard a ferry used to rescue stranded passengers, and uploaded the news-breaking photo to TwitPic from his iPhone during the rescue.  His caption read 'There's a plane in the Hudson.  I'm on the ferry going to pick up the people.  Crazy.'

Gaza Conflict Plays Out Online Through Social Media : NPR

  • NPR.org, January 6, 2009 · The Gaza Strip may be closed to most traditional media, but the conflict there is still being reported — sometimes in cell phone interviews and through cell phone videos posted on YouTube — and increasingly on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
  • Al-Jazeera's Twitter account has grown to close to 3,500 subscribers in about a week, and many of those subscribers multiply that effect by passing on what they receive in Twitter and Facebook messages, blogs and other online forums.
