Markets and data: global economic statistics | The Economist
The Economist has those with a sweet tooth for quantitative data and analysis well-covered on their Markets and Data website. The first place most visitors will want to visit is the "World Markets" area. Here they can get an overview of the latest stock market indices and commodity prices, and also look over company financial statements. After that, it's time to bite into the "Big Mac Index", which happens to be "the world's most accurate financial indicator to be based on a fast-food item." Also on the homepage, visitors can perform a currency exchange based on the latest information and also display a customized graph of historical exchange rates for 164 countries. Visitors shouldn't overlook the "Weekly Indicators" area, which includes information on commodity prices, Asian GDP growth forecasts, budget balances, and producer prices.

After doing so, users can see words in their native language, the foreign language, or a mix of both. OECD Factbook eXplorer for analysing country statistics
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has partnered with Linköping University to create this rather powerful analytical tool which they call the OECD Factbook eXplorer. First-time visitors can start using the site by going over to the "Dashboard" area on the right-hand side of the page and clicking one of the thematic "stories". These "stories" contain brief introductions to several key issues: labor market policies and labor participation fertility. Visitors can read through these themes to learn about the scatter plot screen, the time-series data, and the interactive map on the far left-hand side of the screen. After that, visitors can use the "Indicators" tab on the top of the homepage to load up one of the data files from the OECD and display it via the interactive map and the scatter plot screen. There's also a "Help" feature that can help users navigate the various options presented on this site. Overall, the eXplorer site will take time getting used to, but it will be most useful to policy analysts and others with an interest in development issues.

Economic Report on Africa 2009
UN's Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and its annual Economic Report. Besides the 2009 edition, there is an archive dating back to 2002. The emphasis in this report is on Africa as an agricultural economy. However the UNECA site can also give some insight into industrial sectors, with for example the report "Energy for Sustainable Development: Policy Options for Africa". It also supports the development of ICT in Africa as part of the African Information Society Initiative, an explicit part of its mission being "to speed the continent's entry into the information and knowledge global economy".
