No, no it isn't. (Interesting though for the quote from Mitterand who thought Schengen was in the Dutch Alps. Maastricht is in the "Dutch Alps", the nickname the Dutch give to the hilly southern province of Zuid Limburg).
I think it's easy to overstate the number of drug tourists in Maastricht. The cafes are concentrated in a couple of areas (and some have been moved by authorities to the edge of town) and the city doesn't have an all-pervasive drug culture - certainly much less than some other Dutch cities (including Amsterdam). But the vast majority are German or Belgian, so I'm not sure this ban is really going to make a whole heap of difference.
Only an annual health check? I think they need rather more than that - many carers over 60 already have health issues, but they seem to be often treated in isolation or without due cognizance of the pressures that caring brings.
Brilliant news story about Propsero, the only British built satellite launched on a British space launch vehicle.
Totally misleading headline, but interesting article. I find the Google Android Market pretty clunky and tend to look for app recommendations on the web before searching for an appropriate app. There needs to be a better search and review process, better QC.
This surprises me not-at-all. I deal with a couple of EU bodies and hardly ever meet an English person. Also, because the UK has rarely (if ever) submitted a bid to host an EU agency office, the situation is compounded. All this does nothing for the British view of the EU, IMHO.

all legal resident foreigners should be eligible for ID cards, which should save having to cart around one's passport
Old BBC News article reporting on an aggregated study that proved that homeopathy is total bunk. One wonders why the NHS pays for this stuff (including a sizeable hospital near me).
Nice article that, in brief, debunks a whole series of medical myths, including my pet hate: homeopathy.
Nine new nations join the Schengen area, bringing the total to 24 countries. I hate being semi-detached from Europe - it's just one of the reasons why we considered moving to the Netherlands.
International rankings for educational standards in reading and maths. UK fairs badly. Netherlands fairs well. Again.
An example of why it would be better to have a standard EU-wide tariff so that airlines find no advantage in hopping across a border to get lower environmental taxes. Eindhoven is much closer to transport links and population centres.
Happy birthday, Oscar Niemeyer, the creator of some of the most fantastic Jetsons-esque architecture. Who says concrete can't be beautiful?
