I find the local opposition to the Jerwood puzzling. The new building needed to be sensitive to the surroundings and I think this succeeds. We intend to visit very soon.
Amazing images of iconic Bulgarian socialist architecture at Buzludzha.
Handy illustrated guide to the best of Pyongyang's architecture.
I'm rather smitten with these buildings. I know the Folkwang Museum in Essen - but I'm not sure it enlivens the architectural context, which is boxy and grey on the whole. An Gaelaras looks amazing.
What an awesome idea! A park on an old elevated railway line.
New holiday home in Dungeness. But, somehow, rather more than that.
Happy birthday, Oscar Niemeyer, the creator of some of the most fantastic Jetsons-esque architecture. Who says concrete can't be beautiful?
Excellent (and very long) article on elevators, sorry, LIFTS. I'm not sure that the door-close button is truly a dummy - experimentation is called for.
DG visits Bexhill. H and I keep saying that we must go and have a look around the Pavilion (we were last there when the restoration was still in full swing).
When I'm rich (and hopefully not famous), I might upgrade my office to one of these buildings. I particularly like the shelters with the oak branches forming the supports - I can visualize an office with a veranda built this way.
Being from the Bognor area, I have many memories of the Picturedrome, including watching the Back to the Future trilogy in the wrong order (it was very confusing) and being pelted with sweets by some girls sitting half a dozen rows further back. I also re
I've stayed in a hotel (Soviet era) next to this building. It certainly is massive and I can understand why they might wish to demolish it. And yet, I hope that they don't. It is a part of European history, even if not a particularly glorious part, and it
I visited this signalbox on a school trip about 30 years ago. More latterly, I sheltered behind it on windy days. Sad to see it go, but it was in a pretty bad way in any case.
A teal house. Hels would like a teal house. Maybe not in Finland though. Somewhere warmer, probably.
Splendid design magazine covering art, architecture, antiques, gardens, interiors and design. Not sure I'd pay the subscription price, though, which is waaay more than the cover price.
This looks like a different place to visit - H loves things that are Arabic in style, so we might give this a look. via DG.
Thought provoking article on the way that buildings have always been altered and updated - and suggesting that preserving buildings in aspic or trying to be "sympathetic" can be just as damaging as an inappropriate addition or alteration.
It would be good to get to some of these - maybe the net sheds in Hastings or Bishop Otter College in Chichester.
