Ghana Poverty maps
Ghana is using district-level poverty maps in their program to make cash transfers to poor populations. Seems to be a combination of household level criteria, together with district level poverty map....

This great new map shows anthropogenic biomes. I like the premise. The eco region maps are as if these places had no people. This map says that since there are very few wild places left, it does not make much sense to talk about natural biomes.

The Robinson Projection came into being in 1963 and was introduced by Dr. Arthur H. Robinson.
This projection can be classified as a pseudo-cylindrical projection because of its straight parallels, along each of which the meridians are spaced evenly. The central meridian is also a straight line and all other meridians are curved.

This looks to be just an idea at this point. But if they get it going, it could be very useful. This could be a model for that soils project to be funded by Gates....

The project's aim is to create dynamic digital geological map data for the world!
The target scale is 1:1 million. But the project will be pragmatic and accept a range of scales and the best available data.
The geological map data will be made available as a distributed web service, using the latest web feature mapping approach.
Geological Surveys will dynamically 'serve' the data for their territories to a web portal. The plan is to make it available through Google Earth and other dynamic map browsers.

I wish I had more time to look at things like this. This would be really good for students and other working on global data sets.
