Google Earth used by terrorists in India attacks

Lots of issues here. Free speech. National security. Also, the concept from McLuhan, the medium is the message. Google argues that maps have been used for humanitarian purposes (Maps don't kill people, people kill people).

The Viewspaper - Food Security in India

  • Food security has been a major developmental objective in India since the beginning of planning. India achieved self-sufficiency in foodgrains in the 1970’s and has sustained it since then. But the achievement of foodgrain security at the national level did not percolate down to households and the level of chronic food insecurity is still high. Over 225 million Indians remain chronically under nourished. In 2000-01, about half of the rural children below five years of age suffered from malnutrition and 40% of adults suffered from chronic energy deficiency. Such a high level of wasting away of human resources should be a cause for concern.

On India’s Farms, a Plague of Suicide - New York Times

  • India’s economy may be soaring, but agriculture remains its Achilles’ heel, the source of livelihood for hundreds of millions of people but a fraction of the nation’s total economy and a symbol of its abiding difficulties.....Changes brought on by 15 years of economic reforms have opened Indian farmers to global competition and given them access to expensive and promising biotechnology, but not necessarily opened the way to higher prices, bank loans, irrigation or insurance against pests and rain.
