BBC NEWS | UK | 'Small beer' Blyton banned by BBC
Confession time: the only reason I read Enid Blyton was that they were forbidden fruit, deprecated chez nous for lack of literary value.
I further confess that I found them pretty crap even when I was reading them.
I much preferred Kathleen Fidler, but who's ever heard of her nowadays? And Antonia Forest's school stories were much much better than Malory Towers!
But I shall watch the TV drama; also the Margot Fonteyn and Gracie Fields ones. I'm surprised to find Our Gracie amongst the scandalous Enid and Margot!
Reality TV - News - ITV bosses 'plan popstar opera show' - Digital Spy
Oh I see, they get to sing arias.
Next show, getting people to kick a few penalties (without a golakeeper) and calling them footballers...
Or getting a few celebs to drive a Vauxhall Nova on a disused RAF field and calling them Grand Prix drivers
Pop star opera show to take on The X Factor? | TV | STV Entertainment
Total joke, I assume. Utter car crash telly waiitng to happen. And having Katherine Kenkins and Russell Watson as judges, and Paul Potts as mentor - as if they have any insight or knowledge to bring to the table.
Give me a panel that includes Tony Pappano, David McVicar, Kiri te Kanawa and Bryn Terfel, then we'll take it seriously. Make the wannabes take on some recitative, some ensemble work, and solo singing against an orchestra. Oh, and put them in front of a live audience and take away their mikes.
I have absolutely no doubt that Will Young is capable of singing Nessun Dorma in tune. But what will that prove? That Will young can hold a tune and has a sweet voice. I think we know that already.
The South Bank Show: the last bastion of civilisation on ITV - Telegraph
I think Heffer and the Torygraph have a semi-hidden agenda, but superficially there's not much to disagree with.
(the semi-hidden agenda being the convenient amnesia about the scandalous auctioning of ITV licences that punished high-quality Thames TV for its hard-hitting documentaries and dramas and allowed in the Carltonisation of ITV that spread like a virus to other broadcasters)
Katherine Jenkins presents BBC series to mark 70th anniversary of Second World War - Telegraph
Good grief. TV presenting, now.
And a programme called 'The week we went to war' about Evacuees and Bombings? Yeah, that makes sense. Obviously not coming from the history department, then.
And is she going to read off an autocue or talk about herself and her role n Hitler's downfall?
Probably not the best premise for a TV programme I have ever read.

One More Take: Young Musician Final
Details of exactly how bad it was. Nice that the BBC thinks their paymasters (us) are stupid. They might be; we're not
The BBC ruined the Young Musician of the Year | Music | guardian.co.uk
I watched the final and thought it was a total scrambled egg. Mustn't do anything to imply that success requires hard work. That'll scare off anybody who just wants to be a celebrity
On waking up in the middle of the night and shouting "Wait a minute!"
An excellent summary of the crapness that was "Flood". Four hours! Four hours we won't get back

I'm intending to check out whether this is available in Sainsburys Local on Brixton Hill. It ought to be. We shall see
Euan Ferguson: Jade's back - and this time she's famous | Comment | The Observer
The comments are great - fundamentally, why are former quality newspapers wasting their efforts writing about this crap. My guess is they're bribed to do so. Corrupt, or what...
Grim TV: Hollyoaks in the City
I'm still in shock from how awful Eastenders' Christmas special was, but this makes Eastenders look like Teletubbies.
