Survey Shows Students Need Ethics Training in Social Media | ISTE Connects - Educational Technology

"A recent post by Education Week blogger Katie Ash underscores the need to educate students on how to use social networks responsibly.

According to a survey of 17-year-olds conducted by Junior Achievement, nine out of 10 teenagers use social networks every day. More than a third of respondents said they did not consider the reactions of admission officers, future employers or their parents when posting content. Also, 16 percent admitted to blatantly unethical behavior such as “posting content embarrassing to others, spreading rumors and pretending to be someone other than themselves.”"

About JA - What's New

"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo — Online social networks have become so central to teens' lifestyles that they would consider their ability to access them during working hours when weighing a job offer. This is according to the seventh annual Junior Achievement/Deloitte Teen Ethics Survey, which focused on the ethical implications of the popularity of social networking.

Nearly nine--in--10 (88 percent) teens surveyed use social networks every day, with 70 percent saying they participate in social networking an hour or more daily. More than half (58 percent) said they would consider their ability to access social networks at work when considering a job offer from a potential employer. This comes as many organizations have begun implementing policies that limit access to social networks during the workday due to concerns about unethical usages, such as time theft, spreading rumors about co--workers or managers and leaking proprietary information, among other reasons."

Excellence Through Ethics

"With recent corporate scandals giving way to a declining confidence in the business world, it is vital that Junior Achievement rethink what and how children are taught. While Junior Achievement strives to prepare and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy, JA students should also know that their goals must be pursued in an ethical and moral manner. One of the best ways to teach today’s youth that the passionate pursuit of ethics in the business world is more important than ever is through a defined school curriculum.

To that end, Deloitte has committed $2 million to Junior Achievement - to develop, test, and implement Excellence through Ethics, a business ethics curriculum that is inter-woven through JA’s existing classroom programs.

The curriculum is designed to teach our children that responsible, ethical behavior is essential to a successful future. It is woven into all JA programs that are utilized in grades 4-12, and reaches up to three million students each year.

The 40 classroom activities are now available, and can be downloaded right here in the JA Ethics Center!"

Tech:-)Happy

"For the last few years, I’ve worked with fifth grade students on creating book trailers. For this project, students are asked to choose a book they have read recently and would like to recommend to the class. They then create a synopsis, or overview of the book, keeping in mind what the pull factor about the book is for them. Next, they create a storyboard for their trailer with key phrases and words, letting the class know about the book, without telling them the entire book. After the storyboards are complete, students begin gathering photos from Flickr to represent the key elements in the book. As they are gathering their photos, they are also creating a photo citation page in Word so that they may give credit to their sources at the end of their movies."

Google Lit Trips « Edumacation

"Another idea I had is that we could also outline a whole curriculum in Google Earth. Instead of one book, we look at all of the books we study over the course of a year (i.e. The Whale Rider, Greek Mythology, The Odyssey, Romeo & Juliet, etc.) and all the places those books take us"

Light Right - A Crash Course In Lighting Video, John Jackman

"Digital video has introduced all kinds of possibilities for do-it-yourself television in schools. But with budgets stretched tighter than ever, teachers and media specialists may despair their productions may never look better than Uncle Fred's home videos. "We can't afford better cameras," is a cry I hear often."

educational-origami » home

Educational Origami is a blog , and a wiki, about the integration of ICT into the classroom, this is one of the largest challenges that I feel we as teachers face. Its about 21st Century Learning and 21st Century Teaching. Marc Prensky coined the now popular and famous phrase "Digital natives and digital immigrants" in his two papers on digital Children. We the teachers are the immigrants and our students are the natives, brought up in a world where there has always been computers and the internet, where information is always instant and varied. Our teaching and their learning must reflect this.
I made this wiki on request from Miguel Guhlin after I blogged about matching ICT tools to traditional classroom practice and Bloom's Taxonomy. The wiki has grown a little since then.

Integrating WPMu, BuddyPress, and bbPress - Bavawiki

"Installing BuddyPress is extremely straightforward once you have WPMu up and running. In fact, the beauty of BuddyPress is that it is a series of Multi-User plugins, which means all you have to do is copy a series of files into the mu-plugins folder in your WPMu installation. The only exceptions are the theme files and a bbPress plugin for the Group Forums which I will discuss further along"
