Semantically structured tag clouds
-
The results of our work indicate that semantically clustered tag clouds can provide improvements over random layouts in specific search tasks and that they tend to increase the attention towards tags in small fonts compared to other layouts. Also, semantically structured tag clouds were preferred by about half of the users for general search tasks. Tag cloud layout does not seem to influence the ability to remember tags.

1、我们周末的四人(大学时代的同学死党)聚会总是在咖啡吧中找一个我们能聊天能笑闹但是不会影响其他人的地方;老板总是约我在咖啡吧中谈产品的构思,一起约见相关的专家们请教具体问题,这个时候我们总希望别人不至于打扰到我们;
2、咖啡吧门口的灯箱我喜欢那种不是很扎眼,但是看了一眼会忍不住看第二眼、第三眼的灯箱,就如一个气质美女,吸引我的是气质而不是美丽或漂亮,我比较喜欢那种有点历史感觉的风格;
3、多人聚会的时候,我们经常选择大一点的包间,不影响他人当然重要,但是包间中能让我们有亲密无间的感觉也很重要,具体可能是一些小摆设、桌子、椅子什么的;最好是有多把不同样式的椅子,想蜷着的可以,想摇着摇着假寐的也可以;长条沙发不好,让人感觉自己在练歌房似的;
4、室内不喜欢新家具,喜欢颜色上稍微重一点,但是还有些温馨感的;
6、我也一个人去咖啡吧,百分之百的时间是看书,我喜欢那种爬着梯子找书的感觉,但是预先要是有个目录会更好;
8、强烈建议将靠窗的空间隔成一个一个的小包间(空间允许的话可以安排一两个摇椅的包间——在摇椅上晒着太阳假寐,想想我就觉得人生真好!),春秋冬季享受阳光时建议加收“阳光”费用(要是只收别人的不收我的就更好了,呵呵);

(via All About Microsoft)
Folksonomies: Tidying up Tags?
-
Probably the major flaw of current folksonomy systems – and the number one gripe for those happier with more formal classification systems – is that the tagging terms used in those systems are imprecise. It is the users of a folksonomy system who add the tags, which means that the tags are often ambiguous, overly personalised and inexact.

People's Daily Online -- Internet "codewords" give rise to digital gap

Over the past few years, the use of Internet language has become so common that some netizens have compiled a special dictionary consisting of more than 1,000 newly-designed cyber words.
Report: High Internet Fee Enlarges China's Digital Gap
-
Report: High Internet Fee Enlarges China's Digital Gap The World Bank and Peking University Public Policy Institute have jointly released a report which says information and communication technologies are vital for China to sustain its rapid economic growth and for it to become an innovation-driven society.
However, the report also says high Internet fees, insufficient regulation, dependence on foreign technology and a lack of talent are the four main factors that block China's information industry development. The report, entitled "China's Information Revolution: Managing the Economic and Social Transformation", says that the price of Internet use in China accounts for 10% of the total income level, which is almost 10 times that of the developed countries, and the high price is leading to an increasing digital gap between urban residents and rural groups in the country.
The report says China needs to further reform the laws and regulations in areas such as telecommunications, access to government information, data protection and privacy. It also needs to invest more to provide rural residents access to telecom infrastructure.
The data released by China Internet Network Information Center shows that more than 20% of urban residents in China have access to the Internet, compared with only 3% in the countryside. China is now drafting its first telecom law and will soon set up its first universal service fund, which subsidizes telecom operators for providing services in rural areas.
China has the world's largest telecom market and second-largest Internet user population. By the end of 2006, it had more than 144 million Internet users and 480 mobile phone subscribers.

substrate governing this complexity was assumed to be short-term memory

predictive of performance, especially in deep structures.

for hierarchically organized (taxonomic) categories, there is a priveleged level, the basic level.
-
, it's a level in a conceptual taxonomy somewhere between the most general (e.g., animal, or anything more general than that) and the most specific (e.g., yellow-bellied sapsucker).
-
the basic level tends to be the first concepts young children learn
-
at which parents tend to label concepts when speaking to young children
-
. It's the most general level at which it's easy to obtain conceptual priming,
-
the level at which people tend to first identify an object when presented with it visually
