WordPress Leaps Into Social Networking With BuddyPress 1.0
-
The move comes more than a year after WordPress acquired BuddyPress, which at the time was essentially a series of plugins for adding social features to your WordPress blog. Today, it describes itself as “a suite of WordPress plugins and themes” that includes a fairly thorough set of features, like activity streams, groups, and forums.
Manage your time managae your attention
-
Do you manage your time? Do you manage minutes, tasks, and lists? Do you start each day with a list that has more on it at the end of the day than it did at the beginning of the day, in spite of how many items are completed and crossed off?
Or do you manage your attention? Do you manage emotions, intention, and make choices about what will and will not get done? What are your favorite ways to do this?"
Tech Chick Tips

My first instinct was to tell her to make up the data – the point of the problem was for her to make a pictograph. But instead, I quickly – as in less than five minutes! - created a form on Google and posted on my Twitter account a request for people to respond to that survey. Meghan, Madelynn and I each entered our own choices into the form. By the time we left my office at 5:10pm, we had 40 responses. That was less than an hour later. By the time she did that last problem at home, there were 188 responses. And they came from all over the world! She and her sister sat slack-jawed watching the spreadsheet continue to populate with answers. I edited her form to show that the question was done, but responses kept coming. I did a search on Twitter and my little request for participation had been retweeted 17 times. As of the writing of this blog posting, there are 258 responses for nearly every state in the Union, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Australia,Thailand, Spain, Germany, Russia, and the middle East!
MikeArsenault.net Blog: Are you a Social Media Snob if You Do Not Follow Many People on Twitter?
-
t made me think about some of the celebrities in the Educational Technology world that I live in and how they use Twitter. So I decided to check out some of the most popular people I know on Twitter and test their ratio of Followers to Following. This ratio is simply the number of followers divided by the number of following rounded to the nearest hundredth. The results were really interesting.
-
I would imagine most Twitterers have reasons for who they follow and who they do not follow. I personally do not follow everyone that follows me. I tend to look at a users' profile and if they do have similar interest (education, technology use in schools, social media, etc.) I follow them.
Celebrate Poem in Your Pocket Day - Associated Content

Using a fabric
pen that won't bleed through to the other side of your pocket, carefully write out a favoritepoem; allow the ink to dry. On the other side, write in large letters "POEM POCKET," or any other fun name you come up with for it. After all the ink has dried on both sides, sew the new pocket onto your selected piece of apparel<!--//

(make sure it's not something you really mind putting a new pocket on) -
Using colorful papers and fabrics, cut out several pocket shapes. Use pens, markers, and fabric
paints to write several different poems
on your cut-out pockets. Get a container of clothespins and write "Poem Pockets" or "Poem in Your Pocket," or any other creative names, on them; paint them first if you like, to add even more zest to your already colorful project. Using the clothespins, hang your poem pockets on a clothes
line. Then hang the line somewhere where your friends and family, or even strangers, can take a poem. Hang it from your cubicle wall, or your office door. Hang it on your front door, or along the length of your fence. Encourage friends, family, strangers, coworkers, bosses, and mail carriers to take one as they pass. Show them how to clip the poem pocket to their shirts, jackets, or bags, or tell them to roll it up and put it in a pocket. You never know who will carry a poem, or how far a poem can go!
The Fischbowl: What If?
-
When teachers returned this fall we received an email with this sign as an attachment and a suggestion that we print and post if we wanted.
Turn off and put away all Cell Phones, iPods, and Electronic Devices during class!
-
Having said that, you won’t be surprised that I was disappointed by those signs. I think there were better ways to address these issues with our students (like talking with them), instead of posting an over-generalized and impersonal “thou shalt not” declaration. I think we can talk with our students about these issues – explain why we feel this way – and the vast majority of them will agree with us and not use these devices inappropriately.
